"Q+A: LIFTED"

Q+A: LIFTED
LISTEN, UNCATEGORIZED — BY CHANGEUP ON OCTOBER 5, 2010 AT 11:17 AM

Fusing styles to create a unique sound, college rockers LIFTED are making waves up and down the East Cost, quickly proving they are much more than frat party entertainment.
Behind every great band, there’s a great story. How did the band form?
We all attend the Hartt School of Music. Share a common interest in musical taste and the drive to play anywhere, everywhere, for anyone who wants to listen.

What’s the inspiration behind your name?
Our guitarist was in a band LIFT back in Baltimore. When we first started playing people wanted to hear our music so we sent them to LIFT’s myspace. LIFT stuck but we had to make it different so we added the ed at the end. Bada Bing Bada Boom… LIFTED.

Your music seems to be a mix of several genres and influences. How would you define your sound?
We all come from different musical backgrounds: Ari; is a classical guitar major, Jared; a Jazz Sax major, Chris; Jazz Piano major, and Alex; an architecture major who soaks up every style he hears. The combination of influences from Led Zeppelin to John Coltrane, to Umphrey’s McGee and everything in between sum up to a; Rock, Funk, Jazz, Jam sound. Chances are: at a LIFTED concert you will hear something that you consider your favorite genre.

As an independent band, how to you effectively promote yourselves?
Some of our friends are photographers, some graphic designers. Everyone, even our fans are all in this together. We have done contests to determine the best flyer amongst our fans and then we run-em-off and flyer the crap out of Hartford. Facebook is huge for us… Sometime we feel that we are annoying people but in end the facebook emails, events etc… get the word out like CRAZY.

As a “college band,” are college students are your main audience?
Definitely, we play great party music. People can either chill out and listen to some sweet grooves or dance along. Our concerts are really really fun environments. At the same time, we have been finding that adults In the 25-40 range also really enjoy our music. It’s not hardcore so it doesn’t bother people’s ears and we have really catchy melodies people can’t help singing along to.

How do you get lifted?
We get LIFTED by playing music with each other. The bond that band members form with one another is something one can’t describe with words. YOU get lifted by checking us out in concert and by looking at our website downloading our songs/videos.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
Celebrating the five year anniversary of you asking us this question! But seriously; playing the main stage at music festivals and concerts around the world is the main goal. Also recording albums and working other great artists… even playing with some of our influences would be the greatest reward ever. - ChangeUp Magazine

LIFTED is a complete original. It's award-winning members have studied under luminaries like Dave DiCenso of Duran Duran and played at events for Oprah Winfrey and Martin Short. And they've won 2 rounds so far at the 2010 Contest at the 8x10 Club in Baltimore.

It's about Originality. You know the bands whose songs have the same structure. LIFTED has a dynamic range spanning rock, funk, jam, reggae, and jazz. Their songs are melodic and catchy, but fully textured, adding saxophone and trumpet for extra dimension.

Because they extend a single theme -- a harmonic texture that's very complicated -- outside a single niche, LIFTED appeals to audiences young, old, soulful, energetic, and bright!

A group that met at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, LIFTED is less than a year old but has already shot from the local stage, performing to venues as large as the Monster March, a charity event of 4,000 people on Boston City Hall plaza.

See our BIG NEW VIDEO at www.WeGetLifted.com and ask us about adding your venue to our nationwide tour in 2011.
