Biography

Lige Williamson has been raising a ruckus from Montana to Mexico. Lige's powerful voice and blazing slide guitar has a style that has been labeled "swampy". To witness this young man’s raw intensity in a performance takes your breath away.
Lige's original songs make up the core of his performances. He also covers Robert Johnson, Taj Mahal, Son House, Howlin Wolf, and even Hank Williams!
He has lived in Austin,Texas and Boulder Colorado when not circulating his swampy sound through the Western states. Lige performs solo, or as a duo with Kyle Stersic, saxophonist, long-time friend, and co-producer of his kick-ass album, I Was Born With Eyes Too Big for My Head. Lige also plays in an electronic heavy jazz trio called Drop Odyssey.

The Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah Blues

Written By: Lige Williamson

Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah Blues Music: Lige Williamson Lyrics: Lige and Jane Williamson
I played the blues since I could crawl.
No happy songs, no Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah.
Sang the blues all through my youth.
That’s all I do, I only sang the blues.

Then I met a pretty young gal
singing at a bar on downtown.
Well, she sand those happy songs, like Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah,
and on that day that’s what I learned to play.

Went on the road, that gal and me.
We were in love, as happy as can be.
Hitched rides on pickup trucks.
Well we had no cash, we had a little luck.

We found some gigs ever now and then.
Well, I'd play my guitar, she’d sing along
and we’d sing those happy songs, aint no blues.
Well, she sure could sing that Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah.

Now that young gal left me high and dry.
She brought me down oh how I cried.
Now I ride from town to town just playing my blues,
no Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah now.

I sang the blues since I could crawl,
guitar in my hand when I was fourteen.
It seems these blues run through my veins.
Well, nothing can change it, I tried everything.

When I play for you it’s only the blues,
don’t ask no happy songs no Zip-Ah-Dee-Doo-Dah.
I sang the blues all through my youth.
That’s all I do I only sing the blues.

Old Crow

Old Crow
music: Lige Williamson Lyrics: Lige and Jane Williamson

Got home late one night,
I was feelin’ pretty tight.
Been drinking Old Crow with my pretty whore.
I sneaked to the porch and I opened the door.
My wife was standing with a gun in her hands,
pointed straight at my head, thought for sure I was dead.
I’m gonna die by that Old Crow.

She said “You dirty drunken fool,
Get out the door or I’ll shoot you.
You stink of Old Crow and your little whore.
Like salmon dyin’ on the shore.
Well you best get back to that whore.
Maybe she’ll fix you, I don’t know.
Lord knows, I can’t try anymore.

You’ve wasted your life.
And now you done lost your wife.
Won’t wait up for you any more.
Won’t play your mama, that’s for sure.
Well you don’t live here no more.
You best turn around, walk out that door.
Well I aint gonna watch you die by that old crow.”

That was five years ago.
On the streets, I have no home.
All alone with nowhere to go.
No reason to live anymore.
Bartender fix me one more.
Just one more Old Crow before I go.
Well, I’m gonna die by that Old Crow.
Said I’m gonna die by that Old Crow.

Ruby Red

Written By: Lige Williamson, Jane Williamson

The Earth is quakin’ far as I can see
Ground is breakin’ under my feet
The Earth is quakin’ far as I can see
Well, ground is breakin’ under my feet
I guess the devil’s comin’ after me
Oh lord I’ved sinned, aint no god can help me

I had me a woman, I loved her so bad
I stole diamonds to adorn her hand
Oh I had me a woman …. I loved her so bad
Well I stole diamonds to adorn her hand
But I caught her with another man
Makin’ love in my own bed

Well I got out my shotgun, shot ‘em both in the head
Right there where they lay in my bed
I got out my shotgun, shot ‘em both in the head
Well I shot them right there where the lay in my bed
Oh, my poor heart, it filled with dread
And the sheets were stained ruby red

I got right down into my grave
I won’t ask forgiveness, aint gonna pray
Into my grave
No, I won’t ask forgiveness, ain’t gonna pray
I give the devil my soul to take
Well I can’t repent that bloody day.

The Earth is quakin’ far as I can see
Ground is breakin’ under my feet
The Earth is quakin’ far as I can see
Well, ground is breakin’ under my feet
I guess the devil’s comin’ after me
Oh lord I’ve sinned aint no god can help me
Oh lord I’ve sinned aint no god can help me... can help me... can help me...

Born With Eyes Too Big For My Head

Written By: Lige Williamson, Nathan Williamson

I was born with eyes to big for my head
Well I was born with eyes to big for my head
My mind’s got wings but me boots are full of lead.

Well it seems this world’s not made for me
Well it seems this world’s not made for me
I’m wantin everything my eyes can see

I want more than the world can ever give
I want more than the world can ever give
The more I take, the less I find I get

I’m the fire that burns this whole world down
Yea, I’m the fire that burns this whole world down
I’ll take all that I see and leave you six feet in the ground

Well, I was born with eyes to big for my head
Yeah, I was born with eyes to big for my head
My mind’s got wings but me boots are full of lead.
