Like Jonathan's music communicates something bigger than themselves. A group of guys that consider themselves friends first. Their songs are accessible and honest; a rock sound that leaves you feeling that all is not lost in the world today.

Biography

Like Jonathan's formation is nothing too unusual for most bands. The 5 piece rock band from Jackson, Michigan formed out of the friendships made in college. Brothers Steve and Jeff Smith, along with life-long friend Dan Prout had grown up playing together in their church youth group back in Ohio. Music was something that brought them closer together. When some teens shoot hoops or play video games, they played and wrote music. This carried on to Spring Arbor University where they acquired Mark Dusseau on bass and Ben Goodrow on drums.

The bands moniker comes from the Old Testament, based off the relationship between David and Jonathan. The two were very close friends. They would have each others back in all circumstances, so when God had David be king instead of the rightful heir Jonathan, Jonathan stepped aside and let Gods plan preside over his own.

This is attitude the band takes with the relationship with each other, "like Jonathan" did with David. Always friends first, band mates second. This doesn't mean everything is roses all the time. The stress of a being in a working band doesn't always bring out the best in those involved. What makes LJ different is that they will not let being in a band get in between their friendship.

"I've seen lots of bands that ruin relationships trying to get ahead. It's just not worth wrecking something valuable for the sake of being successful in the industry." says guitarist Jeff Smith. "If anything, we want the band to strengthen the relationships between us. We've learned a lot about each other; long hours in a van or studio together will do that to you."

It's an ethos that seems to be working for them. Since their inception, they've been the opening act for the likes of Sanctus Real, Jars Of Clay, Thousand Foot Krutch and Everyday Sunday, and have shared the bill with artists like Brandon Heath, Mathew West and Francesca Battistelli.

Like Jonathan is just getting started, and seem to be hitting their stride. Look for great things in the future, and expect the bond between them to have grown even stronger.

Feel Something

Written By: Mark Dusseau, Ben Goodrow, Dan Prout, Jake Rye, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith

I'm trying to figure out
What my life is all about
But I have my doubts
Questioning my intent
Don't want my heart to feel regret
So change it

We're taking strides
With every step we are taking our time
And giving back the minutes to our minds
The miles to the ride

Tell me how a heart can break
Slowly pieces separate
Am I too late?
Can I mend what I neglect
When will that fire resurrect within me?

We're taking strides
With every step we are taking our time
And giving back the minutes to our minds
The miles to the ride
We will sing loud
And shout it from the bottom of our hearts
And let our lungs give out
Just to feel something, we want to feel something

The days we merely sleep
And wake will finally be redeemed
If we would choose to live
And live like we were really feeling something

We're taking strides
With every step we are taking our time
And giving back the minutes to our minds
The miles to the ride
We will sing loud
And shout it from the bottom of our hearts
And let our lungs give out
Just to feel something, we want to feel something

Believe

Written By: Mark Dusseau, Dan Prout, Jake Rye, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith

On a road to somewhere
A place that I've been before
But tonight I'm aware
I can't deny you anymore
The dark has turned to light

Don't ask me how I got it precisely
But I believe, I believe
Through all the days that love that to find me
I believe, I believe

The dawn breaks, the light shines
Revealing what I couldn't find
Your grace, Your love
Leave all my emptiness behind
This time I can't deny
Don't ask me how I got it precisely
But I believe, I believe
Through all the days that love that to find me
I believe, I believe

I always put up a fight
I didn't want to be right
Until you stumbled me
I knew it had to be true
You're making all things new
You're making all things new

Don't ask me how I got it precisely
But I believe, I believe
Through all the days that love that to find me
I believe, I believe

It's the tears on your face
The mysterious grace
It's the knock at your door
That you just can't ignore
This time I can't deny
This soul I have inside
This time I can't deny

Crying For a Change

Written By: Mark Dusseau, Ben Goodrow, Dan Prout, Jake Rye, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith

My hands are a lovely shade of red
Stained with regret
Reminding me of things I'd rather
Rather soon forget

The limelight's dull from way back here
Behind the drivers seat
Illuminating what I've done
And signals my defeat

Do You hear, I'm waiting
Calling out your name
Crying for my heart to change

Missteps and old regrets cut deep
They take a toll on me
I am aching for freedom from this history

Do You hear, I'm waiting
Calling out your name
Crying for a change

No reflection in the glass
Or at least I cannot see
The object of Your affection staring back at me

And You hear, You've waited
Whispering my name and leading me to change
When You're here you take this from me
You cast away my shame
I'm back to what You've meant for me

The First Time

Written By: Mark Dusseau, Dan Prout, Jake Rye, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith

A dimming light explodes
A charge is surging
The anomaly has somehow made my ears stop ringing
And I can hear you now

I can't deny that the world needs someone to love
Intellect aside, the world needs someone to love
No more feelings of apathy leave ignorance behind
Finally I feel my heart beating for
What feels like the first time

The room is fiercely shaking
Knees are buckling
And every time that your pulse flows through my vision is renewed
And I can feel it

I can't deny that the world needs someone to love
Intellect aside, the world needs someone to love
No more feelings of apathy leave ignorance behind
Finally I feel my heart beating for
What feels like the first time

I'm waking from this sleep
Where dreams forgot to be
And I see you
Oh Lord, teach me how to love

I can't deny that the world needs someone to love
Intellect aside, the world needs someone to love
No more feelings of apathy leave ignorance behind
Finally I feel my heart beating for
What feels like the first time

Keepsakes And Currency

Written By: Mark Dusseau, Ben Goodrow, Dan Prout, Jake Rye, Jeff Smith, Steve Smith

Time is barreling
Without any expectancy
What once was currency now is a keepsake to me
The clocks will keep on turning
In circles they trace memories

The minutes move along
We sing another song
And I'll be waiting here
With your hand in mine
We'll capture points in time
And hold on to every one

Seconds come and go
And it's getting harder to know
How many we have left before all our hours are spent
Though our days may be numbered
We'll live them until they are gone

The minutes move along
We sing another song
And I'll be waiting here
With your hand in mine
We'll capture points in time
And hold on to every one

When the skies are grey
And life gets in the way
Remember I love you, remember I'm here
Together we'll play back our favorite years

The minutes move along
We sing another song
And I'll be waiting here
With your hand in mine
We'll capture points in time
And hold on to every one
