Bio

Like Jonathan's formation is nothing too unusual for most bands. The 5 piece rock band from Jackson, Michigan formed out of the friendships made in college. Brothers Steve and Jeff Smith, along with life-long friend Dan Prout had grown up playing together in their church youth group back in Ohio. Music was something that brought them closer together. When some teens shoot hoops or play video games, they played and wrote music. This carried on to Spring Arbor University where they acquired Mark Dusseau on bass and Ben Goodrow on drums.

The bands moniker comes from the Old Testament, based off the relationship between David and Jonathan. The two were very close friends. They would have each others back in all circumstances, so when God had David be king instead of the rightful heir Jonathan, Jonathan stepped aside and let Gods plan preside over his own.

This is attitude the band takes with the relationship with each other, "like Jonathan" did with David. Always friends first, band mates second. This doesn't mean everything is roses all the time. The stress of a being in a working band doesn't always bring out the best in those involved. What makes LJ different is that they will not let being in a band get in between their friendship.

"I've seen lots of bands that ruin relationships trying to get ahead. It's just not worth wrecking something valuable for the sake of being successful in the industry." says guitarist Jeff Smith. "If anything, we want the band to strengthen the relationships between us. We've learned a lot about each other; long hours in a van or studio together will do that to you."

It's an ethos that seems to be working for them. Since their inception, they've been the opening act for the likes of Sanctus Real, Jars Of Clay, Thousand Foot Krutch and Everyday Sunday, and have shared the bill with artists like Brandon Heath, Mathew West and Francesca Battistelli.

Like Jonathan is just getting started, and seem to be hitting their stride. Look for great things in the future, and expect the bond between them to have grown even stronger.
