"UCD Battle of the Bands Preview"

It's difficult to imagine the live performance of this act given the importance of instrumentation, nuance and levels to the overall sound, not to mention the optimistic, singular and endearingly rugged quality that the recordings lend to the songs. This fact becomes especially pertinent when we consider the notorious unpredictability of the sound in the Student Bar.
However, the rough promise demonstrated in the four individual tracks on likeKings' myspace page suggests that grumpy soundmen and dodgey equipment are probably variables that likeKings are prepared for. With this in mind, it should be interesting to see how they manage to convey their music in a live setting.
likeKings specialise in structure and tone and demonstrate a knack for songwriting in the classic sense. Elusive similarities with a truly diverse range of artists come to mind on a first listen, including James Taylor, the Libertines, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Ocean Colour Scene.
Locked in Thought never fails to pique interest as an upbeat, catchy riff and vamp-like piano chords conduct us through effectively laid out changes in tone, structure and key.
These songs verge on the corny, especially melodically, but never quite cross that line thanks to a deft, subtle ability to change direction at the drop of a hat whilst never compromising the natural tone of the song. This kind of talent is what makes the difference between blandness and music. - UCD College Tribune

Bio

One night in the little known town of Wittenberge, North Germany in August 06, 3 of the 5 lads from Dublin and soon to be members of likeKings decided there was enough talent and unrelenting determination to make rhythms, melodies, lyrics and chords that would combine to create noises that paid homage to our eclectic influences such as late- Beatles, Radiohead, disco, jazz and blues. Rehearsals sparked 11 songs in a very short space of time and since a launch gig in January to nearly 200 people, there have been over a dozen gigs that have seen the band impress a well-known judging panel at the UCD Battle of the Bands, putting us in a final of 5 amongst 25 applicant bands, along with appearances on college radio and press, playing headline gigs in Crawdaddy and The Sugar Club and most recently supporting The Coronas in The Village, a very prominent band on the Irish music scene.
