lili and walter 2009
who drinks from the lilies 2011
third cd to be released 2014
several of our songs, including hey lillee, shout # 5, song for the poor, sweet goodnight, and who drinks from the lilies, have been played on the radio, particularly on KOOP FM, where we have also played a live performance.

lili and walter met in 1991 when lili walked into a bar on Sixth Street where Walter’s band the Little Giants was playing. They married a year later and began performing as an acoustic duo in 2007. Walter White writes music and lyrics, sings, plays guitar and harmonica, and has performed in the Austin bands the Solid Senders, the Little Giants, the Biscuit Rollers, and Rhino Room del Norte. lili li, who grew up singing in church, writes music and lyrics, plays guitar, and was also in Rhino Room del Norte. lili has published fiction in many literary journals, most notably Shenandoah, was the author of the activist blog Accused of Dancing, and is a winner of the Austin Book Award for Dancing, a collection of short stories written under the name Ruby Turner.
Margaret Moser of the Austin Chronicle praised the duo’s 2009 album: ‘Skimpy production adds immeasurably to the lo-fi charm of Lili & Walter’s self-titled CD. The 11 homespun songs hearken to Delaney and Bonnie’s Motel Shot (1971), stripped down, casual, and alluring in their bare presentation. Rootsy instrumentation propels their sound through denim-soft originals with a rural gospel flavor (“Shout # 5”) and gorgeous traditionals (“Poor Wayfaring Stranger”).’ lili and walter released their sophomore recording in 2011. Folk at heart with echoes of blues, jazz, and gospel, Who Drinks from the Lilies explores life, love, suffering, and transcendence through traditional and original songs. One of the songs from this album, “Song for the Poor,” was covered by Kim Simpson on his 2011 Christmas Single. All proceeds from “Song for the Poor” have been pledged to charity. lili and walter anticipate the release of their third album in 2014.
lili and walter played last Tuesdays at the Carousel Lounge from 2008 to 2011 and was the house band at Sam’s BBQ from 2011 to spring 2013. The duo has also played at the Republic Park and Triangle farmer’s markets, the Cepeda Library, the Moose Lodge, and the Wheatsville Arts Festival, among other venues, and has been guests on KOOP’s long-running Country, Swing, and Rockabilly Jamboree. lili and walter songs are played on independent radio
