"Lili Haydn Is No Shrinking Violet"

"...the album is neither a modern alt-pop nor a bold instrumental album. It's both. Imagine what music Norah Jones or Fiona Apple and avant-garde violinists like Carla Kihlstedt or Jenny Scheinman would produce if they inhabited one body and mind."

--Jim Fussilli, WALL STREET JOURNAL - Wall Street Journal

"Lonn Friend quote"

Lili Haydn doesn't play the violin. She invites it over, lights a candle, pours it a class of Pinot and then makes magnificent, savage, delicate, passionate love to it. 'Strawberry Street,' 'Saddest Sunset,' 'Children of Bablyon' and 'Satellites,' are wonderful, consciously composed, beautifully performed tracks. 'Places Between Places' and 'The Last Serenade' are ethereal pieces that spotlight Lili's ineffable instrumental wizardry. I don't know where she's been or what she experienced but I beg her to hold gratitude in her heart for those moments, however challenging, for they brought this gifted artist to the most accomplished work of her career. Places Between Places symbolizes an old spiritual adage, 'Joy and woe intertwined, the fabric of soul divine.' From playful regalia to sad lament, this aural adventure channels the gamut of emotion." - Lonn Friend, Author, Life on Planet Rock

"All Music Guide"

" ...an unforgettable affair. Her arrangements are absolutely magical and her use of orchestral strings utterly awe-inspiring, as Haydn interweaves pop and classical, and smudges the album with Eastern and western tinges, all interlaced with a progressive rock flavor that harkens back to the creative peaks of the early '70s. The epic 'Can't Give Everything,' which swings between progressive passages and pop, is sheer brilliance, the title track a yearning masterpiece, the brief 'Reverie' a delight, 'The Last Serenade' a baroque triumph, and 'Powers of Fire' as glorious as a final sunrise ... her phenomenal version of P-Funk's 'Maggot Brain' will excite the most attention, and deservedly so, as her soaring, swooping violin sweeps across the song. Often compared to Jimi Hendrix, here she surpasses the master." - Jo Anne Green, allmusic.com

"Detroit News"

"Get out of the way, Norah Jones. If you're looking for the hot new CD, hit record stores today for Lili Haydn's just-released "Light Blue Sun." The L.A.-based rock violinist pumps out song after song with a mix of pop, Eastern, classical, jazz and dance music that defies description." - None

"Women Who Rock"

"Lili amazed her audience…tossing her raven curls like the rock star she is…her performance was electrifying." - None

"LA Weekly"

"Courageously intimate with her audience, Haydn lays into her violin as if it's a wild animal only she can bring to heel. The effect is an emotional magic show...a party of sound...electronica beat, lyrical strings, ethereal voice, and words that resonate in the battered chamber of the human soul." - None

"Jazzreview.com"

"The music appeals sometimes to your heart and other times to your feet, managing not to insult your brain in the process. This CD deserves to be heard and should certainly become a favorite on public radio. More intense than the likes of Enya, more real than Madonna, and miles ahead of most everything else, Lili Haydn's "Light Blue Sun" provides reassurance that popular music can still be meaningful." - None
