Bio

JAMES “LIL JJ” LEWIS
Actor / Comedian

At just 15 years old, Lil’ JJ has taken the comedy world by storm. Having nabbed a starring role opposite Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo in the feature film remake of “Yours, Mine and Ours,” and came in 3rd place over the Thanksgiving weekend (2005), and a holding deal at the teen net Nickelodeon, Lil’ JJ is headed to super stardom. Dubbed “The Prince of Comedy,” this Little Rock, Arkansas native was naturally a class clown, but always had high marks in school.

He was discovered by his physical education teacher, Kendrick Bright, who looked beyond Lil’ JJ’s practical jokes and saw something very exceptional in this young man. With the help of Mr. Bright, Lil’ JJ got his start doing little comic skits at an open mic program at Juanita’s Bar and Grill in his hometown. His big break came when he entered BET’s comedy competition, “Coming to the Stage,” a TV talent show for stand-up comedians similar to “Star Search” and “American Idol.” Lil’ JJ blew through the twelve-week comedy competition, annihilating his challengers, who were two and three times older than him. He went on to become the Grand Prize Winner, gaining instant national fame for his phenomenal comedic talent at such a young age.

Lil’ JJ’s win on “Coming to the Stage,” brought him to the attention of NBC’s “The Tonight Show,” where he was invited to perform his stand-up comedy and do an interview with host Jay Leno. His performance had universal appeal and captivated viewers of all ages. His other television appearances include the long-running hit variety program, “Showtime at the Apollo,” where he was very comfortable on stage performing in front of the no-nonsense audience at New York’s legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.

Earlier this year, Lil’ JJ made his feature film debut starring opposite Oscar nominee Queen Latifah in MGM’s “Beauty Shop.” He recently wrapped production on the independent film, “Crossover,” co-starring with Anthony Mackie and Wayne Brady. The urban drama is about the competitive underground world of street basketball and is scheduled for release in early 2006.

While the Nickelodeon executives are actively developing television and film ideas for him, Lil’ JJ keeps busy as the host of the network’s top-rated program, “Friday Night Slimetime,” and as a recurring cast member on their hit sketch comedy show, “All That.”

In between his many television and film projects, Lil’ JJ manages to keep a demanding tour schedule. This fall, he headlines the Teens of Comedy tour presented by BET. The first of its kind, this 20-city tour features five teenage up-and-coming stand-up comedians. Lil’ JJ credits his favorite comedians Chris Tucker, Rickey Smiley and Bernie Mac, for his own comic inspirations. Following in their footsteps, this young comedian is destined to keep us laughing for a very long time to come.
