Still working on that hot first release.

Lil Kane’s passion for Hip Hop has been the constant in a tumultuous life packed with highs, lows, and plenty of unknowns. Born David Swain in Detroit Michigan, Lil Kane has survived against all odds. At the age of two, the Detroit native relocated to Austin, TX with his dad after his parents divorced, only to lose his father to prison three years later. He was placed in the custody of his grandmother, and she took the role of mother & father in his young life. At the age of nine, Lil Kane and his grandmother eventually relocated to Hutto, TX to live with his aunt & her children. It would be during this period in his life he’d discover his love for Hip Hop and his natural ability as an emcee.

Lil Kane’s first hip hop memories are of stealing his older cousin’s Hip Hop tapes, and listening to them in his aunt’s attic. N.W.A.’s “Straight Out of Compton,” was the first tape he remembers ever hearing. “Simply put, I was blown away.” He would be later be introduced to art of rapping by his cousin, who noticed Lil Kane’s natural ability to deliver the rhymes he’d memorized from songs he’d learned. Tay Jodie, Lil Kane’s cousin, would write rhymes for Kane spit but it wouldn’t be long before he’d find his own voice and begin writing his own lyrics. He’d later be invited to join Tay Jodie’s group Triple Shoot Mafia, but that proved to be a short-lived project as the group would eventually split due to creative differences.

Troubles at home eventually led to Lil Kane being kicked out of his aunt’s house right as the group separated. Only 16 at the time, Kane would continue to pursue his passion for Hip Hop. Producer (and family member) Doc Holiday noticed Kane’s ambition and began sending the teenager beats. It would be during this period that he’d come into his own as a writer. Homeless and living pillar to post he still managed to graduate from high school, a victory he attributes to his grandmother’s constant encouragement. Following graduation Kane relocated yet again to Cedar Park, TX with his longtime girlfriend. Still pursuing music he’d link with upcoming producer 1210. The two would go on to create and sell projects featuring local rappers. The duo collaborated until Kane and his girlfriend moved again to Houston, and eventually returned to Austin while awaiting the birth of their child. It would be the birth of his daughter that would put his life on track, and he fully decided to dedicate himself to becoming a rapper.

The birth of his daughter would mark the beginning of Lil Kane stepping into his own as a solo rapper. He and longtime collaborator 1210 begin planning his first album “The Classics.” Shortly after they begin working 1210 ended their partnership to pursue other interests, and once again Kane was at a stand still in his career. He was later introduced to producer Big Wood, who would go on produce the rest of the songs on the album. Released in 2008, “The Classics” went on to be received well by both music fans, and his peers. Kane credits the success of the project to a number of rappers and his daughter, all of who inspired his sound and determination. “The Classics” included fan favorites “Something About the ATX.” “Put Cha Dranks Up” featuring Tay aka The 6th St. Bully (Dread Skot), and “Grind Till I Shine” featuring Reggie Cobbie (Dread Skot).

Since “The Classics” he has worked with a number of other notable underground talent from Austin including Dread Skot, Mike C, and Mc Breezy, while earning performance opportunities at the city’s hottest Hip Hop venues and event. His music has been played on 88.7 and in nightclubs all over Austin. While he has experienced success locally, Lil Kane is prepared to take his music to the masses. Hip Hop fans can expect to hear all Kane has to offer as he prepares the release of his mixtape series “Everyday Life Music,” as Day 1 will be released June 2012. Never one to give up in the face of adversity Kane knows the odds are stacked but is determined to be heard, and share his talents with the world.
