Biography

...There is something gradiose, captivating and magical about Lilly and her musical universe “, Fyns Stifttidende 2005

Music became a part of Lillys life from an early age, and very significant for her nature it happened on her own initiative. At the age of 10 she made her parents buy her a used piano and pay for pianolessons from the old local pianoteacher in the village, Tulstrup, west of Hillerod (DK). Here she grew up in an active and innovative home with lots of different projects going on all the time like gardening, housebuilding, art painting and mobilediscoteque. Music and words were among Lillys favorite interest and she was still a child when she wrote her first poem/lyrics and started making soundcollages on the piano.
Lillys father is Danish, and as a young machine engineer he sailed with the company Maersk and among other places he came to Japan, where he met Lillys Japanese mother. They married and got three children - Lilly is the youngest. As a china- and art painter, Lillys mother had and has a big interest in art, and she took Lilly to a lot of exibitions in her childhood. But, it was the music that called for Lilly and as a teenager she began to use the musicdepartment of the local library a lot. She borrowed and listened to lot of different kinds of music, but mainly jazzrecords of all kinds found their way into her schoolbag. Also in her teens she started to sing and take singingclasses after having played the trombone for a while too.
20-years-old Lilly passed the entrance examinations with singing as her major instrument, to the very new Rythmic Music Conservatory department in Silkeborg, Jutland - called CRMB. Here she studied four years from 1994-1998.
Since then Lilly has been working as a teacher in singing, chorus and ensemble in different kinds of musicschools. In the recent years she has devoted herself more and more to songwriting and producing music.
In 2003 she started her own recordlabel, PagodaMusic and in 2005 she released her debutalbum Before The Crossing, that got a lot of good reviews. In 2006 she became a mother and the new second album Love Is A Sound is very much inspired by her little daughter Naomi. The album is also dedicated to her. In 2008 there was spotlight on Lilly and her talent, when she was selected as one of new creative singers and composers under the theme New Voices to play a bigger openair concert at the Copenhagen Jazzfestival with her outstanding scandinavian liveband. In 2009 Lilly releases her second album Love Is A Sound, and is selected to play the Aarhus International Jazzfestival 2009.
