"Get To Know L.i.l Pooh"

.I.L Pooh (Larger In Life) feels the current direction of Hip Hop is coming back to an originality now that people are starting to be themselves again. Focused on becoming a hot new trend, Pooh has secretly started to learn the art of beat-making so he can have his own in-house production. With Pooh’s fiery lyrics and potential to explore all genres of music, he’s just waiting to be discovered and taken to the next level.

IAA: What is your music background?

L.I.L POOH: My music background is mostly hip hop and r&b, but I’m more of an eclectic type of artist. I like all genres of music.

IAA: What inspired you to do music?

L.I.L POOH: The people that inspired me to do music are my two uncles. They were managing R&B groups while I was growing up and teaching me how to be professional at the same time. I sat back and absorbed everything I saw them doing. My first experience being on stage was when I was in the 3rd grade performing “It’s The Bomb” by Kriss Kross. Another inspiration was the music itself, and how it can set any type of mood. I really get into the music and it feels like we are one (music and me) by the way I feel it all throughout my body. It may sound weird but that’s just my feeling for the sound of rhythm.

IAA: What are your songs about?

L.I.L POOH: Well I have songs that can relate to pretty much everybody. I write about what I’m going through or been through, the pain, struggle, looking and feeling good, overcoming adversity, true stories, and just the way I feel on a certain beat.

IAA: Do you write your own music?

L.I.L POOH: Yes of course I write my own music, but I’m always open to opinions or ideas.

IAA: Who are your musical influences?

L.I.L POOH: My musical influences on the business side are people like Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, Diddy, and 50 Cent. On the music side I’m influenced by artist such as 2PAC, Lil Wayne, UGK, Outkast, Beyonce, Bone Thugs N Harmony, R-Kelly, Ginuwine, and Usher, just to name a few.

IAA: How would you describe your music to people?

L.I.L POOH: I would describe my music as influential art. My music is the type of music that everyone can relate to.

IAA: What makes you stand out from other artists?

L.I.L POOH: I think one thing that makes me stand out from other artists is that I’m willing to be myself and not follow anyone else. I rather have people follow my movement. I do support other artists’ movements, but I’m willing to go outside the box and make it cool for other people to do so as well.

IAA: What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

L.I.L POOH: My career goal is to be a successful music artist and entertainer period. I want to explore entertainment as far as acting, modeling, and being behind the scenes. 10 years from now I see myself deeper in the entertainment industry and more successful with everything I do. Music or acting are two fields that I am very interested in becoming a legend in. 10 years from now I see myself working with some of the best entertainers in the world. I want to have at least 7-8 CDs released

IAA: How can your fans access you and contact your music?

Bio

Born Walter R. Hodges Jr. on August 14 , 1984 in San Antonio, Texas, Walter was the only son in three children. He had two sisters. Although both of his parents are alive, Walter grew up in a single parent household. Walters mother was his source of inspiration. She showed Walter how to believe in his dreams.

Walter was into sports just like any other young boy at his age would be, and he used that to his advantage as he played all through high school. However, just like any other teenage boy, Walter got into some trouble as well. During 11 and 12th grade, he was expelled from school for selling drugs, but that didnt stop Walter. He realized the error of his ways and enrolled himself into a charter school where he received his diploma. He then went to college in Houston for two years and decided to focus on his music career. Along the way, Walter had faced many dark times that may have ended his career, but he remembered one thing that kept him going. It was what his high school football coach, Coach Rutledge had said to him, Overcoming adversity is all in the mind."

Early Music Career

Although Walter discovered his love for music at the age of 11, when he rewrote the classic Reasons by Earth, Wind and Fire, it was in 2005 that Walter took new strides in his music career by launching his own record label Gotta Git it Records, and introduced Troop Klick, which consisted of a group that included Walter and two other artists. In 2007, he joined with The Bexar County Boyz, and released 2 CDs. Walter would later end up back in jail for bid of possession, and it was at this point Walter began to reinvent himself and when he was released, he decided to begin his career with the stage name of Larger in Life LIL Pooh. On November 11, 2011, he released his first solo mix-tape, entitled "M.E Point 5" and it was followed by much success in the form of sales, downloads, covers and features in BREAD Magazine and Going South Magazine.
