Bio

Lil Pookie popularly known to the “Zydeco” world has just released his long awaited CD, much to the excitement of his eager Zydeco-Craved fans. The album expected to be a success and favorable collection, the energetic, heart-filled lyrics and driven beats that he has made his own signature is destined to be recognized across the globe.

The development of his unique style is a result of a life time of musical influence and background. Being born into a talented musical family meant that the music was in him from conception. His Grandfather, the late Delton Broussard was the forefront of his roots and was instrumental in Pookie’s interest in playing the accordion. He began his musical career by playing the Frotoir or Rubboard known to most. He gained exposure through traveling with the popular Zydeco Force.

Lil Pookie’s musical journey began in the heart of Opelousas, Louisiana better known as the Zydeco Capitol of the world. Born in a small community known as Frilot Cove he spent most of his childhood watching other musicians and sneaking into clubs to gain knowledge of what was already instilled in him. It wasn’t long that he began playing the same music he craved. At the age of 12 he shocked the Zydeco World by entering and winning the first accordion contest at the popular “Zydeco Extravaganza”. He began to learn other instruments and became a drummer with the Zydeco Blazers and later became the groups accordion player. The group was shortly renamed “Lil Pookie” and the Zydeco Heartbreakers.

As his confidence grew and his style developed, he soon saw a loyal following begin to grow and he became a popular local hit in Louisiana and Texas. His talent with a variety of musical instruments only added to his appeal, and his unique “Rap” influenced sound started to find an appreciative audience. His talent was also recognized by other popular Zydeco Musicians as he played whatever instrument needed in the absence of musicians with bands such as Boo Zoo Chavis, Beau Jocque, Step Rideau, Roy Carrier, and Zydeco Force.

But although his name was continuing to grow in Louisiana, he received great revues along the East and West Coast. His musical ambitions continued to grow, aided by the sounds of up and coming Rap Artists, high energy Zydeco musicians, and sharp lyrics. He is keen to point out that everything he listens to directs his musical development in some way. However, he would certainly include “Prince”, Michael Jackson, Boo Zoo Chavis, Beau Jocque to name a few are amongst his biggest influences.

Lil Pookie has played at famous places such as the Southwest Lousiana Zydeco Festival, Wolf Trap in Washington D.C. and the Festival International. He has aslo traveled to Jamaica, Belize, Honduras and Cozumel to play for the Zydeco Cruise.

After a short break from the Zydeco Scene, Lil Pookie realized that the music in him was still very much alive. He began sitting in as a back up musician for other artist until he developed the itch to put the accordion in his hands once more.

Now he’s back better than ever with a brand new look, sound, and electrifying magnitude of lyrics that will have you remembering why you fell in love with his music in the first place.

The album features Lil Pookie on vocals, background vocals, accordion, keyboards, bass, guitar, drums and rub board and Andre Thierry on lead guitar.
