Bio

Dean Sawatzky is a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist – Keyboard (Piano and Organ) Guitar, Ukulele and Voice. He started writing songs at the age of 13, and one of his first performances of original songs was at Expo 86 in Vancouver on the Plaza of Nations Stage. At 17, after a concert in Toronto, Dean was scouted by an executive at A&M records and asked to produce several demos of original music with their A&R Department, which lead to some fantastic progression and strengthening in his songwriting and performance skills. His unique approach blends elements of folk, country, Americana, rock and blues in a contemporary manner.

“I always strive to address subjects in my songs that have both a personal and universal element. I look for truths and theme’s people can relate to in their own life, while maintaining a very personal element – so it often feels confessional, even if I’m writing about someone else’s experience.” His songs span topics such as Facing obstacles, mortality, social justice, love and loss and often evoke the landscape, creating a unique sense of place around his words and music.
