"Style & Substance: Harrison"

XWHY bags a chat with songstress and feisty female Linda Harrison. - XWHY

"INDIE MUSICIAN SPOTLIGHT"

TEASE EP is the latest release from multi-instrumentalist artist HARRISON, the 6 track release show an explosive record push for new boundaries in the world of pop rock. It features the “Dirty Beat” remix from acclaimed producer Kat Krazy, a regular on the Hype Machine chart and an increasingly familiar name on Radio 1. Musically effusive, lyrically intriguing with a vocal that takes the best from P!nk, Karen O and Annie Lennox; Harrison’s melodies are a psychosomatic thrill-ride and will “leave you wanting more”. - Indie Minded

"Harrison is the epitome of an upcoming superstar."

Frankly, being a musician is not a simple task. While we all have the ability to sing loudly in the privacy of our own homes using a hairbrush as a faux microphone, there is more to this profession that should always be considered. From sass, attitude and unmistakable talent not many individuals can fit these characteristics. However, we have found someone who effortlessly does. Chasseur was able to sit down with Harrison as we dung deep into what sparks her creativity and grants her the drive to stand out musically. Fascinating and well received, Harrison is the epitome of an upcoming superstar. - Chausseur Magazine

"Charity single for NSPCC."

A former student of the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford has released a charity single in aid of the NSPCC.
Linda Harrison originally wrote "Be With YOu" in 2010 whilst studying at the ACM, and she has chosen to donate all the proceeds from the single to help children who are subjected to cruelty.
Everyone who has worked on the single did so for free, including a 16-piece orchestra.
"To me both the song and the process of making it has been about passion and a willingness to give everything for love with no strings attached," Linda said. "So with that in mind, I felt that to follow the true spirit of this song, I should not take any profit from this release. In fact, I've decided not to take anything to cover my costs either".
Originally from Edinburgh, Linda moved to Guildford just after she turned 17 after seeing a leaflet for the ACM which spoke of its success stories.
"I was sold," Linda said.
Linda graduated from the ACM in 2011 and since then she has met singer-songwriters such as Linda Perry and Ellie Goulding, and has also had song writing sessions with ex-Phantom Planet guitarist Jacques Brautbar.

"Buzz Track: Be With You"

Twenty-two year old singer-songwriter Linda Harrison has become a Kings favorite. She recently released her first single, “Overexposure”, and is now releasing her follow-up “Be With You” (in aid of NSPCC). She has 1 million YouTube hits. Her upbeat pop songs are rooted in emotional hardship and solid experience gained from Edinburgh to LA’s slums. She is currently performing full-band shows in small underground London venues.

"FOR MASH, GET SMASHED HARRISON ''OVEREXPOSURE''"

(WHITE LABEL)

RELEASED? 10th September.

SOUNDS LIKE? An odd one. A lot of fun as well. It's not often that an artist can take a grab bag of commercial effects, poses and riffs and come up with something sooo manic, so switchbacked, mixed up and more smashed than mashed as to be completely unsuitable for commercial purposes. If there was someone like Tori Amos or Bjork fronting this, then every chin-stroking pony tail owner would be lining up to praise “Overexposure”.

IS ANY GOOD? Yes.

"Into The Limelight: HARRISON - Overexposure"

4 STARS ****
Multi-tasking, multi instrumentalist, self-marketing Scottish singer-songwriter (Linda) Harrison is a hard-headed independently-minded force. She previously recorded an album at the age of 16 and, now 20, releases her official debut single. It suggests a bold, stuttering, soul-baring talent. More exposure soon, please.
- Daily Mirror

"Meet Harrison: Successful singer/song writer who cleverly self-manages her career!"

After interviewing Harrsion in Shoreditch, I watched her perform and was blown away. She managed to take me out of my thoughts and be a part of her and her thoughts and feelings with every word she was singing. It felt like time stood still and I could feel the passion in her voice. Not only does she sing, she mixes in with the audience, she gets involved with the instruments on stage, she brings out the beat with her movements and characteristics and brings out the emotion with her beautiful, warm, husky voice. - Sazrah

"Female Flare VIP: HARRISON"

With a lot, maybe most twenty year olds leaving University and attempting to get jobs or scratching their heads wondering what to do with their lives, this little lady is working on her dreams and ambitions to make it in the music world. She is already a singer, a songwriter, an instrumentalist, a self marketer and a merchandise maker. Harrison releases her single, ‘Over Exposure’ this September and with already over 1 million YouTube hits, a fashion line and an album recorded when she was 16 there seems to be nothing that she can’t do.

You’ve done so much so young! What inspires you?

So many things inspire me! Probably my greatest inspiration is watching people triumph over struggle. Another big one for me is something I call“stranger love” and community spirit – to me “stranger love” is when two or more people who have never met care for one and other, for example my fans on Facebook or someone you meet at a concert when you’re squashed together in a crowd.

Do you ever have spare time?

Very rarely. Music isn’t really a job, it’s a lifestyle – so you’re living it every moment and it’s constantly on your mind.

What is overexposure about?

I wrote “Overexposure” when I found out that my ex had moved on; I had seen a little more than I had bargained for. I felt that sick feeling in my stomach but also felt frantic and panicky because I shouldn’t have seen what I saw, that’s what caused the stuttered vocals (they were sung like that, not produced). The lyrics are both literal and metaphorical because my ex used to edit his photos before he uploaded them online and they’d always be black and white and overexposed. I find it amazing how perfectly this song describes those few moments of panic in my life.

How did you get into music?

I have two older brothers and one of them played piano, so we had one in the house. I always used to climb up on the seat and thump my hands on the keys. I remember trying to write a song called “Cat and Mouse” when I was about 5 years old. It involved thumping the lowest notes and thumping the highest notes; I thought it was a masterpiece…but the family didn’t. I think that was probably the point when I started piano lessons to help me play something more tuneful!

What’s your favourite thing about what you do?

When someone tells me I’ve inspired them. It feels amazing to know you’ve had a positive impact on someone else’s life.

Where’s the strangest place you’ve performed?

There have been a few! One of the most amazing was playing on a small boat when there was thunder and lightning going off on the horizon. Another would be when we got booked for an acoustic gig at what turned out to be a rave..!

If people went to see you live what can they expect?

A lot of emotion and energy and some seriously good musicians – my band are amazing! I spent months auditioning them, so they should be!

What type of music do you listen to at home?

There isn’t a particular artist or genre that I listen to regularly these days. I usually just put Spotify on and find something new every time.

If you had all the money and all the time in the world what would you be doing?

I’d build a massive portable outdoor stage with the latest hologram and 3D technology, and create the greatest show on earth. I’d then organize a world tour with the stage, and time every show to be at sunset in each different country. Instead of asking the concertgoers to pay to come to the show, I’d pay £100 per person that attended to their chosen charities.

What’s the coolest thing about you?

I enjoy taking risks.

The uncoolest?

I’m a bit of a loner. I spend most of my time working on my music inside and forget to socialize.

What do you do in your spare time?

Make custom clothing orders for my fans.

So what’s next for 2012/2013?

I have some singles coming out over the next few months. Hopefully there will be a good response to those and I’ll be able to go on tour and record som - Female Flare

"Shout 4 Music"

YouTube is a dangerous place to be a musical talent scout. On an almost hourly basis new sensations spring up, record half a million hits, thousands of positive comments, and then disappear, never to emerge again despite their 15 minutes of virtual fame. The online world is a tricky one in which to spot the genuine talent, and the onus is on the artist to sell themselves as much as the scout to find them./

So when someone like Linda Harrison, who goes by her surname only, comes along, it makes that job an awful lot easier. Her life's path had taken her from Edinburgh to London via a musical academy in Guildford and a professional trip to Los Angeles, but that doesn't even begin to tell the whole story of the internet's latest singing sensation./

At just 20, Harrison is well grounded, with an incredible sense of reality for one so young – she knows that her immediate future lies in singles, not albums, has shunned agents to do all her own marketing, merchandise and even fashion label, and intends to produce a film to accompany her hypothetical future full-length. However, whilst her personality makes her an attractive proposition for any record label, her voice is what makes her stand out from the crowd./

Her songs range from carefully chosen cover versions of chart-toppers to personal, heartfelt attacks on the fear of falling in love. In every one her voice is the instrument which strikes out, softer sections offering a glimpse of Harrison's soul playing off a raw energy which dominates the harder, rockier elements of her repertoire. For such a young artist her vocal control is remarkable, and there is untold promise tied up in those chords./

In line with her plan, the Scottish songstress will release a series of singles in rapid succession, with 'Over Exposure' the first in September. For the moment that's being kept well under wraps, but to sample the determination, ambition and above all, clear talent that Harrison has to offer, take a look at one of her covers below – this one is her take on Zedd's 'Spectrum.'/ - S4M

"Music industry uncertainties sprout new wave of DIY musicians"

Singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, self marketer and merchandise maker Harrison is testimony to a burgeoning scene of young musicians who self manage and direct the course of their music careers, with the gusto that artists even twice their age lack altogether. With a large online fan base, Harrison is set to release a string of self-penned singles in coming months, she explains:
“Singles are what I should be doing right now. Life’s moving at a quicker pace for everyone. But when I do an album, I’m going to make it a film too, a story where one track leads to another and you have to listen to the whole thing.”
Harrison is 20 now. She has her first physical single, 'Over Exposure', due in September, 1 million YouTube hits, a fashion line and an album recorded when she was 16 to her name, and collaborations and connections from Frankmusik to Perez Hilton. But this seemingly glitzy start is the result of fierce independence and self-belief. She has refused management and publishing deals to pour her own savings into doing things the way she thinks is right. Her upbeat pop songs are rooted in emotional hardship and solid experience gained from Edinburgh to LA’s slums. Vulnerable but with a steely stubbornness, she is a pop star who has paid dues the latest X Factor puppets don’t know exist.

Harrison is not your average musician. Playing piano, with impressive vocals, she also designs her own jewellery and costumes, a true creative force. This Scottish lady is driven by ambition and a genuine love for her art. Her first single ‘Over Exposure’ will be out on September 10th, so look out for more live dates between now and then. - Altsounds

"Linda Harrison releases debut single "Fight About It""

Next generation DIY artist, not the pop punk Princess but the pop rock Queen, Linda Harrison, is a performer, a singer-songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist. She’s the girl that released her debut album and left her Edinburgh home to follow her dreams in London at just 16. With an album already under her belt, Linda immediately immersed herself into working her band, song writing, live shows, and recording.

Now just 19, Linda has single-handedly developed an incredible multimedia presence using film, viral campaigns and innovative YouTube covers such as the Pussycat dolls, “Hate This Part” getting upward of 200,000 hits internationally.

Not only has she built an impressive online presence, but her presence offline is just as large. With preview CDs of her debut single “Fight About It” lying in coffee shops up and down the country with “Take me home, enjoy me, and then return for the next finder” inscribed, this girl is not short of innovative ideas. She is highly rated by her peers, fans and industry alike instigating whirlwinds in A&R, radio and promoter circles.

Linda has recently worked with the likes of Cutfather, Adam Argyle, Dee Adam and Toby Faulkner. Played at Edinburgh’s greatest new venue, HMV Picture House on 6th September (she supported Sandi Thom) and again on 10th September for the lead up to her debut single release “Fight About It” on September 14th, it seems as though things couldn’t be going any better for this unsigned act. Linda is the epitome of a new breed of artist who is perfectly placed to succeed in the new 21st century music industry.

Her debut single is available NOW for pre-order via text (Text FIGHT to 81088*). Her single and EP will be available for download from iTunes (and other major online digital retailers) on 14/09/09. - Band Weblogs

"Got Music Talent"

Here's a girl with a voice with tons of potential, performing a cover of the song that just might be considered the mother of auto-tune. It's a well-received version of Cher's original that will have you looking for more and more from Linda.

"Featured artist on Devils Deeds"

You might think that having your own fashion line, gaining one million YouTube views and working with the likes of Perez Hilton, Frankmusik and Cutfather can only be achieved if you've been in the game of fame and fortune for a long time. Allow me then to introduce Linda Harrison, singer, pianist and songwriter from Edinburgh, Scotland, who has achieved all of this by the age of 20. This may be attributed in no small way to having formulated her musical intentions by the age of seven, and recording her first album at sixteen. Ms Harrison's now huge online presence can be credited to a shed load of hard work, great melodies and some epic live performances. "I do idolize Freddie Mercury. Not just for the music, but his stage performance and personality" she states, and for those who have witnessed the energy and passion that her shows contain, this is certainly not hard to imagine.
Consider this - for Linda, it is just the beginning. Which means that this young lady has a very big future. Watch this space.
