Linda Lucas

BandFolkAcoustic

Soulful girly folky acoustic, mostly, with a side order of in-your-face girl-blues, dense lyrics, leaning towards the "music-to-slit-your-wrists-by" genre with the odd uplifting piece or snarky rhythm for variety.

Biography

My influences are largely folk and largely Canadian: Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Gordon Lightfoot, Valdy, Harmonium, Francis Cabrel. I am different from other bands in the poetic value of the lyric, the female voice, the humility of knowing how much I have to learn.

Uncommon Ground

Written By: Linda Lucas

Uncommon Ground

I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
Said I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
A civil tongue with a kinda raunchy sound
An upscale, crunchy, non-suburban hound

I see you at the corner, lanky, lean and long
Said I see you at the corner, lanky, lean and long
Is that blues harp in your pocket full of songs?
If you can’t play all the stops, babe, move along

’Cause I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
Said I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
A civil tongue with a kinda raunchy sound
An upscale, crunchy non-suburban hound

You say you’re wounded and you’re hungry but you’re lookin’ to come clean
You say you’re wounded and you’re hungry but you’re lookin’ to come clean
Is your heart deep as your scars and do you still dream?
I’ll give you grindage in the mornin'; I’m not talkin’ ’bout caffeine(you know what I mean)

Cause I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
Said I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
A civil tongue with a kinda raunchy sound
An upscale, crunchy non-suburban hound

(riff break)

Yeah gimme a blue-jeaned, soap-clean ‘homemade from scratch’ kinda man
Said gimme a blue-jeaned, soap-clean ‘homemade from scratch’ kinda man
Part poet, part pagan, part prophet, part garage-band
Let him roll without the punches and keep a gentle hand

’Cause I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
Said I’m lookin’ for some uncommon ground
A civil tongue with a kinda raunchy sound
An upscale, crunchy non-suburban hound

Set List

I play venues where the emphasis is on original music. I have somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50 original songs. I can play a full three sets of about 12 songs each, though usually I play one set on my own and one with a jamming partner (such as London's 'Acoustic Spotlight' hosted by Jake Levesque of MOSAIC).
