"Book of My Mind CD Review"

Singer/songwriter Lindsay Bloom has been writing and performing music since she was 16 years old. Originally from Cleveland, Bloom now lives in Indianapolis and has been performing her songs throughout the country for a few years now, even generating some interest from MTV, who may use her music in the background of some of their shows. Her debut CD, Book of My Mind, was released in 2007.
Though Bloom describes herself in one interview as a younger variation of Melissa Etheridge, the more immediate comparison that comes to mind is Alanis Morissette, as her opening number "What About Me" has a similar vibe to Morissette's breakout hit "You Oughta Know." But, where Morissette made her name as the tough, defiant woman, Bloom is a bit subtler.
One read through her lyrics and you immediately realize that this is a very personal album, one that sees Bloom pouring her heart and soul into every song.
With songs like "Another Lifetime" and "Good For Me," Bloom quickly draws you in with just a few well placed words and notes. She has the uncanny knack of being able to convey her message in a just a few short sentences with lyrics that are both intriguing and thought provoking.
Not only is Bloom a great lyricist, but, she backs it up with great hooks and musicianship that make her stand out amongst similar artists. Other standout tracks on Book of My Mind include "Worth It" and "Truth" (two songs that bring to mind Lisa Loeb), "Last Goodbye," (which has a 4 Non Blondes flavor) and the more Etheridge-like "Hate You."
Book of My Mind couldn't have been more aptly titled. With her debut CD, Lindsay Bloom allows listeners into her head to hear her most personal thoughts and feelings, and she does so in a way that almost leaves you exhausted, though still wanting more. Sure, comparisons to more established artists like Michelle Branch, Loeb, and Morissette are unavoidable, but Bloom is undoubtedly her own person. She seems to be one of those rare artists that have something relevant to say and is also able to convey that message clearly to her listeners. Bloom is the real deal; there is absolutely no question. Make sure you log on to her webpage at www.lindsaybloom.net to preview some tracks and to order this CD. It'll be the best $15 you spend in 2008. I promise.

Bio

Originally from Cleveland, Lindsay Bloom began her musical career at the ripe age of 4, as her older brother made her memorize the rap stylings of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. It wasn't long until Lindsay was up on stage and local store countertops performing her newly learned rap routines sporting a leather jacket and dark shades. As she discovered her love of performing, Lindsay got involved in the local theatre community and was in countless productions throughout the city. When her teenage years approached, it looked like she’d never make it as a rap star, and Lindsay picked up the guitar. Almost immediately, she put her thoughts and feelings in the form of songs and since then has filled up notebooks of catchy tunes inspired by real-life situations and experiences. Lindsay started performing at area coffee-houses and bars and soon began to gather attention from local producers and record labels. Before graduating High School, she was signed with an independent label and started working with producers from New York to Chicago.
In 2000, she moved to New York City to pursue her interest in acting and attended the New York School for Film and Television for an intensive training program. After a couple years of living in nyc, and appearances in television shows including Saturday Night Live, Lindsay couldn’t escape her passion to sing. During the last couple years, Lindsay has been writing songs and performing in multiple cities including the PRIDE festivals. She recently went to work to record her first album, Book of My Mind, which is now available on Itunes and cdbaby.com. Her story-like songs and unforgettable melodies leave you captivated, revealing Lindsay’s true essence in every heartfelt lyric.
