"mesmerising"

“...chocyamo display some real talent. Beautifully crafted songs and light yet mesmerising vocal performances”
- The Skinny Mag

"an absorbing experience..."

“…tunes which veer between atonal and beautifully fragile to create an absorbing experience…” - Baby Tiger

"Nick Drake, Laura Veirs and Elliott Smith"

"Lindsay Sugden's performance was intimate and reflective, with interesting rhythms, contrasting a gentle use of the guitar, and stabbing plucking, her voice filled with hints of Nick Drake, Laura Veirs and Elliott Smith... gentle and full of emotional depth." - Scottish Music Network

"incredibly addictive"

"The melodies from Chocyamo [Lindsay Sugden] excite, unsettle and are incredibly addictive. Married to the soft, sweet vocals of Lindsay Sugden and Andrew Moore who pour honey all over the stereo giving the listener the irresistible urge to turn the stereo knob up full and break it off”
- Subculture Magazine

"chocyamo's return to glory!"

Chocyamo have lain somewhat dormant for a few years, while singer Lyndsay satisfied her traveling urges to far flung places, however they return with some old songs which have been polished up and some new. They have found their way on to a demo together and very good they sound too. First track ‘GC’ echoes the bouncier moments of Coxon era Blur with Sugden’s whispered vocals contrasting well with the crank of the guitars.
The next song sees vocal duties passed to Andy, giving way for a more Stephen Malkmus feel before a big wigout at the end where it all gets a bit angry.
Standout track ‘Bernard Drake’ sees Lyndsay resume vocals and there is definitely a hint of Mogwai, thanks to the quiet/loud bursts of Andy’s volatile guitar playing. However there is no epic build up, it’s all packed into the 3 minutes leaving us wondering why they have left it so long to start up again. - Is This Music?

"a timeless quality that will ensure they gain a place in your long term affections"

"A four piece band of quite wondrous subtlety, they proved that you can distract a man from his beer. Ms Sugden's vocals washed over your soul like warm water. Soothing and harmonious, this band had a timeless quality that will ensure they gain a place in your long term affections." - The Bluesbunny

"music that makes you appreciate the true beauty that can be found in music"

Lindsay Sugden is one of the most refreshing acts this reviewer has seen this year. This is music that makes you step back from the convoluted music scenes of today and appreciate the true beauty that can be found in music. - YRock

"proper contemporary Scottish folk music"

At times rattly and percussive, at others, delicate and intricate - and that only accounts for Lindsay Sugden’s guitar playing which blends
distinctly Caledonian, ethereal fingerpicking with unusual chord
progressions and bass runs in constant motion. Her breathy vocals float through these four songs, merging alternatively with the guitar and gorgeous, unique cello; delicately clattering percussion provides an urgency in contrast with the dreamy strings. The empathetic production emphasises every intake of breath, the scraping of fingers on strings and subtle reverb creating an atmosphere of intimacy. This is proper contemporary Scottish folk music: neither gimmicky nor anachronistic, it sounds both familiar and yet otherwordly - The Skinny

Bio

It was while Lindsay studied the slow creep of glaciers in Iceland that the seeds of the songs were sown. Carrying these ideas back to Edinburgh, they fell on the fertile soil of the vibrant Edinburgh acoustic scene and began to take root. Augmenting Lindsay’s fragile melodies and intricate guitar parts with the harmonies, cello, djembe and glockenspiel of the Storm, a unique sound emerged . . . with results we hope you like :)

The Storm is building momentum and 2009 will see the band the busiest ever... The band scooped all the awards on offer at Acoustic Idols 2008, and were crowned overall Acoustic Idols of the year, voted for by the audiences of Edinburgh. Beyond their home city, they have been seen at venues such as the Hope & Anchor, London, and in January 2009 they were selected to perform a set at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow during the Celtic Connections Festival..
