"Review of Chase The Moon"

(16 November 2013) Austin, TX-based singer songwriter Lindsey Dukes has emerged with a debut recording, entitled Chasing The Moon (Lindsey Dukes (USA) 884501976831, 2013). This sixteen minute EP contains five original songs that were written and performed by Lindsey in her unique style, ranging from folk-pop to jazz. The project was recorded at Taylor Audio in Austin, TX and was produced by J. R. Taylor.

Brilliant upbeat pop-style piano provides the backdrop for the accessible opening tune "Window To Your Dreams" Multi-tracked vocals add depth and texture to the chorus. In contrast but still upbeat, "Your Smile" evokes more country feel with arrangements that include a range of acoustic and string instruments and light percussion. The gentle ballad "Another Way Home" offers the richest overall production on the EP.

The artist shifts styles to jazz in "Chase The Moon" with piano and stand-up bass arrangements backing the singer, trumpet excursions provide additional texture to the track. The instrumental excursions are accompanied by Lindsey's lovely vocals. The EP concludes with the folky ballad "Quiet Days" that is tenderly sung atop gentle acoustic guitar. This is a fine, albeit short, debut recording that shows promise for Lindsey Dukes. - Musical Discoveries

Review: Lindsey Dukes – Chasing The Moon

Lindsey Dukes – Chasing The Moon (Independent)

There are some lovely moments on Lindsey Dukes’ “Chasing The Moon” EP, the Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter’s six-track debut collection. Relatively inexperienced, she only recently began to take her music seriously, but her songs, their arrangements, and the way she sings and presents them, suggest an artist with no shortage of either confidence or talent.

She’s been guided and recorded by renowned producer/engineer/musician J.R. Taylor, and their partnership pays dividends from the off. Opening cut “Window to Your Dreams” arrives fully-formed with a full-band production, and Dukes introduces herself with an emotionally rigorous, wholly accessible, pop-folk song, which ebbs and flows in a most agreeable way. Big, sing-a-long choruses work their way into the subconscious and melodic hooks immediately find purchase.

“Your Smile” is joyous and cheerful, with simple backing – I’m not sure which stringed instrument takes lead, but it certainly put a smile on my face, and final track, “Quiet Days” is wonderfully contemplative. In-between are my personal favourites, the urbane title cut, and the jazz-flecked “Another Way Home”, where everything comes together beautifully. It’s probably Dukes finest vocal on the collection and displays all the grown-up pop sophistication of a major label production. - Leicester Bangs (UK)

Worship leader and cover band dynamo turned solo artist Lindsey Dukes is stepping out on her own with the release of Chasing the Moon on September 13, 2013. Hailing from Austin, TX this lifelong singer and spirited musician is armed with an acoustic guitar, a captivating voice and the support of Central Texas. Now propelled by the release of her first EP, she’s ready to take the step from local folk sensation to nationwide phenom.

While getting her feet wet by singing and songwriting for her local Austin church, Dukes quickly found herself surrounded by a host of local artists, producers and mentors. By 2011 she founded the Motown cover band Honey Baked Soul with guitarist Michael P. Vasquez which performed throughout the greater Austin area and beyond. After teaming up with renowned engineer and producer J.R. Taylor, she hit the studio in 2012 to record material for her debut, Chasing the Moon.

Featuring 5 songs of soulful, enchanting music, Chasing the Moon is a mere snapshot into Dukes’ talent as a singer-songwriter, giving listeners a chance to wade into a deep pool of folk, pop and jazz influences. Ideal for fans of Colbie Callait, Norah Jones, Jewel, Sheryl Crow and Fiona Apple, her debut is already garnering play on Jango Radio, alongside regular rotation on Women of Substance Radio.

Supporting performances for Chasing the Moon will hit the greater Austin area, featuring Dukes with singer-keyboardist Nic Whitworth, who previously toured with Gary P. Nunn’s band for 7 years. She also aims to secure spots on local radio stations for even more airplay while promoting the album throughout Central Texas.

Chasing the Moon is available now through digital retailers such as iTunes, Spotify and Amazon, with videos, pictures and more available on the official Lindsey Dukes website. Connect with her on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with future performances and music.

Bio

Lindsey is an Austin, Tx based singer/songwriter. Singing has always been a part of her life, but she didn't fully realize her passion for singing and songwriting until serving as a worship leader at a local Austin church. Through this experience, she was blessed enough to find herself surrounded by some of the most talented and experienced mentors in the music industry; each of them playing major roles in getting her to where she is today.

In 2011, she partnered with the talented guitarist, Michael P. Vasquez, to start a Motown cover band. After attracting some of Austin's most talented musicians and vocalists, Honey Baked Soul was born! The band is still groovin' to the sweet sounds of Motown across Central, Tx.

In late 2011, Lindsey was introduced to the musical genius of J.R. Taylor. After listening to Lindsey debut a few of her originals, J.R. agreed to record and produce her first solo E.P.

In 2012, she completed recording for her E.P., and got her first taste of performing live as a solo artist.

In early 2013, Lindsey had her first gig as a professional studio vocalist and also performed at SXSW as a vocalist and musician for longtime friend and fellow singer/songwriter, Dana Ray.

September 13, 2013 Lindsey's Debut E.P. "Chasing the Moon" was released!
