After receiving Christ as his Personal Savior at 16, Lionel Pearson had a burning of wanting more. Believe it or or not, he saw an episode of the TV show the Jeffersons and he was amazed when he saw Andre Crouch playing the piano, singing, “Can’t Nobody do me like Jesus”, Lionel knew then, what he wanted to do, so he pegged and pleaded with several musician to teach him how to play the piano and after being rejected so many times, Lionel asked his parents to buy him a piano and so it begins. In 1988, Lionel began to teach himself how to play the piano, spending endless hours after school practicing. Lionel would listen to Andre Crouch, Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship, Daryl Coley, The Clark Sisters, The Winans and not only playing them, but being able to re-arrange some songs, and started to teach them to choirs and the band, then was asked to be the Minister of music for some of churches in the DMV.
Never having schooling for music, but would always let the churches know before they hired him, advising them that he played and sing under the instruction of the Holy Ghost, and from that point on he knew what called him to be, An Instrument of Praise.
Then allowing the opportunities of the following:
•Back ground vocal for Stephanie Mills at the lyric Opera House in Baltimore for the play “His Woman, His Wife.”
•Background vocal for Pastor, Danny Evans and the Baltimore Metropolitan Choir
•Back ground vocal/Organist for Late Rev. James Cleveland Youth Division (GMWA), 2000-2002 under the direction of Peggy Carmichael.
•Song writer and arranger for the group Regeneration
•Back ground vocal for Kervy Brown, 2008, 2009 in the DC/VA Area.
•Performed my debut Live Recording in Baltimore 2010
•Has been the Minister of Music for the MD/DC Area
•Vocal coach for a short time for Antoine Spence and New Praise
• Wrote the song, “G.O.N.E.” for the film, “A Mother’s Love.” 2012
• Performed for the Non-Profit organization for Battered Women 2012
• Opened for, The Legendary Twinkie Clark 2012
• Opened for Jason Nelson 2012
After time had passed, throughout his career, Lionwl asked Dr.Lauretta Jackson, and Min. Kelvin Brown for piano lessons and they took him under their wing to critique his gifts and talents.
Lionel then started hearing different chords, rhythms, dynamics in his sleep, waking up in the middle of the night, playing chords and writing songs. And so, Lionel started listening to other styles of music to get a better understanding and became a fan of jazz, contemporary jazz and gospel then along came neo-soul. Lionel started blending the sounds of Will Downing, Marvin Sapp, Anthony Hamilton and TC Carson to develop his signature style of Contemporary Christian Music.
