Bio
Since they started making music together in the winter of 2008, Lion O’Brien have strived to weave the feel-good emotions of a perfect summer’s day into their own original brand of bitter-sweet pop songs.
The band was formed in South London by vocalist and guitarist James O’Brien after the break-up with his then girlfriend. A heartbroken James threw himself into writing, and a collection of finely crafted songs were born that mixed his love of American indie with the euphoric passion of old motown records and a fresh take on quirky British folk-pop.
The band took shape as James was joined by bassist Mike Jones, keyboard player Catherine Wallace, multi-instrumentalist Mick Fahy and drummer Sam Coll, recruited through the small ads, and the 5-piece were soon taking their energetic live shows across the UK, playing with the likes of The Wombats, The Holloways and Johnny Foreigner during 2009.
The band released their self-released EP, Raincloud Vs Sunshine, in the summer of 2009 and having received rave reviews in various fanzines, were championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 and Tom Robinson on 6 Music.
The band is currently in the process of recording fresh material to be released early in 2010, and will continue to spread their music across the land through their dynamic live shows
