"Lions of Tsavo, Firelung (9 out of 10)"

The keen-eyed editors at Decibel had to correct my first review of Firelung. It turns out that Lions of Tsavo aren;t cruel villians who time-machined back to the '90s to steal all the good songs Today Is the Day were supposed to write. I guess that's why they get to wear those diamond-encrusted Heartwork necklaces. I appologize.

Anyways, part of my review still stands. From the rabid, blown-out vocals to the lunatic drumming. Lions are the 2.0 version of vintage TITD. They've found the exact combo of fuzzed-out rock, flaming machete metal and morose melody to make you wonder why Steve Austin even bothers to show up to the studio any more. But the band also moves past singular comparisons, with elements of crust and stoner metal played at a furious clip. Jarring bass and hacksaw guitars frind your dick into the dirt with an overwhelming confidence. Just face it: These guys know what they're doing. And no matter how useless I find most solos, the occasional ones found on Firelung are an integral and sweet-as-all-hell addition.

So, I repeat-there was no time-traveling involved in the creation of Firelung. Lions of Tsavo just happen to have refined a sound to eye-stabbing perfection. And if you'll excuse me, I have to go pick up my gold-plated Entombed grill... - SHANE MEHLING - Decibel Magazine

Bio

The Lions of Tsavo as a working entity crawled out of Columbus, Ohio in the year 2003, created from the ashes of Ambassador 990, Montreal Curse, and the Trem .. who worked on their last album with Steve Austin of Today is the Day. Being pared down to a trio from their former projects, they were drawn towards an altogether heavier sound akin to being mowed over by a line of tanks. All it took was for Ryan Chamberlain to convince his former band mates Matt Walker and Josh Dawkins to make the trek down to Austin, TX in order to have a clean start and create some apocalyptic rock music that no one could classify.
