Award-winning songwriters, Lipkin & Hitt, teamed up in 2013, bringing together the breezy, storytelling, acoustic guitar stylings of Pittsburgh's Jay Hitt with the folk-tinged, jazz-inflected and soul-searching piano tunes of New York's Lisa Jane Lipkin. The result is something a little earthy, a little lofty, and a whole lot compelling.
With original songs about love, life, losing, finding, losing again & finding some more, the pair are both entertaining and illuminating as they weave guitars, piano, percussion, melodica, and more, seamlessly through their upbeat and heart-speak shows.
Having met at a music conference in 2011, the team began
working together with Lipkin as co-producer (along side Richard Martinez) on Hitt's latest recording, "Greetings
from the Wilderness", before evolving into co-billings and onto sharing the stage
as the duo bearing their names.
Since then, they've been seen traversing coffeehouses, festivals, clubs & house concert stage steadily, in between bouts of writing new material. Individually, their credits are considerable:
Hitt was twice named Best Acoustic Musician by readers of the Pittsburgh City Paper, his songs have won numerous awards including Best Song in the Canadian Narrative Music Awards ("Tracy Loves Ray") and "Gentle Persuader", one of his seven CD's, was named in the top ten CD's of the year by WYEP/Pittsburgh. Hitt has been featured on countless stages and recently starred in "Ring of Fire/The Music of Johnny Cash" staged by the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. Previous stage credits include "Always, Patsy Cline".
Lipkin's performance credits include opening for Steve Forbert, Dar Williams, Shemekia Copeland, Vance Gilbert & others. In addition to her own three albums which include a compilation of original Jewish prayers and chants, Lipkin produced the award-winning children's CD "Home" by Christine Pepe and has arranged, played piano & sung on many other recordings including those by Sandi Kimmel.
Lipkin & Hitt aim to share their music and spread some joy wherever such things are needed.
