Manager/Producer/Musician/Entrepreneur and veteran of the DC Go – Go scene, William “Malachai” Johns’ mission to expose DC Go - Go music to the world outside of the beltway continues with his creation of the super - group Lipstick & Congas. Johns hand selected some of DC’s best, young musicians and then held a contest judged by R&B Diva Lil’ Mo, MTV mainstay Tabi Bonney and himself to find “The Lipstick”. 11 young ladies competed for the position and the contest generated over 14,000 votes in just under 3 weeks. The competition spurred thousands of hits to www.lipstickandcongas.com and received shout outs from The Godfather of Go - Go “Chuck Brown”, Backyard & HBO The Wire’s “Big G”, 2011 Grammy nominated soul singer “Carolyn Malachi” and more.
With L&C Johns continues his quest to marry the percussive heartbeat of the nation’s capital with a more mainstream sound and show the world the power of DC Go - Go

William “Malachai” Johns also known as “Redds” is a Manager/Producer/Musician/Entrepreneur and veteran of the DC Go – Go scene, playing lead guitar for bands like Northeast Groovers, SOULO, The What band and with bands like Backyard and Optimystic Trybe. In 2003 he jumped into management as creator of the Go – Go crossover group, Mambo Sauce.
Johns, a cancer survivor has also worked in concert and event promotion with www.vootie.com and with his own company www.malfunktionslive.com. He has also worked in radio promotions at 97.5 KVEG in Las Vegas and WPGC 95.5 in Washington DC. In 2011, Johns was elected to sit on the Board of Governors for the DC Chapter of the Grammy’s.
