Biography

A gifted singer and writer, Lisa has a distinctive voice and sound that remains with you. … Her passion for each song clearly shows through (and) creates a kind of vulnerability that makes her and her music just that much more endearing.”-Dan MacDonald, Cape Breton Post-

Lisa Cameron grew up in Margaree Forks on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and now lives in Halifax. Raised in a musical household, she has been singing and playing guitar on stage for many years.

Since the release of her first solo album, End of Blue, in September 2004, Lisa has had a busy schedule. She has been featured on CBC Radio’s Information Morning in Cape Breton, played at the Strathspey Place Room during the 2005 ECMAs, and was chosen to compose and perform a song for CBC Cape Breton’s spin-off of the Canada Reads series. As a result of that performance, she was asked to perform her rendition of “Hush Little Baby” for a lullaby compilation called, Lullabies of Our Cape Breton, which was released in July of 2005. In addition to all of this, she has been travelling and playing around Nova Scotia, promoting End of Blue.

"End of Blue does not define itself as easily as the singer songwriter who describes herself as a folk singer, but whose writing influences range from bluegrass (I'll Take My Time), and country (Cheap Lipstick) to folk and other influences, including a tender, poetic fragment titled Lilies and Candles."
-Frank MacDonald, The Inverness Oran-

"The album is full of rolling melodies and straight-up tender lyrics about lost and found loves."
-Laura Graham, Halifax Herald-

When you listen to Lisa, you can actually hear where her musical influence and inspiration comes from. Her voice sails over, under, and straight through melodies reminiscent of Nanci Griffith, James Taylor, and Emmylou Harris. You are immediately put at ease by her dulcet, melodic toning and creative arrangements. Lisa's ability to engage her audience, highlights her charming and intimate performance style.

Lyrics

Already Down

Written By: Lisa Cameron

Don't go telling me that things are different now and don't come asking me if I can see your side somehow ‘Cause I've had all that I can take in that regard...
I'm already down

This ain't going quite the way I thought it should
'cause I fell way too hard
I was frightened that I would
I'm scared, ‘cause I've had all that I can take in that regard... I'm already down.

Don't ask me to get over it and say it's no big deal,
I've learned
The heart that I once owned was easy to steal
You say, you'd give anything to make this right again
and tell me not to leave

God, I hope you know I'm trying yes l am
I can't go forward without looking back again
I've seen and I've had all that I can take in that
regard I'm already down.

For Taylor

Written By: Lisa Cameron

I love the way that I feel when I hold you
You fit me just like a glove
Being with you is like red wine and roses
So high and so happy in love
There's a smile on my face for the first time in ages
It came over me when I saw you that day
And I knew that I wouldn't rest till I had you
Sometimes love happens that way.

I had an old love and it served me well
Its not something I'd easily trade
But time takes its toll on a soul and a body
The strength and the finish they fade
So I went searching for true love and passion
The journey did not take me long
Your beauty and honesty stole my affection
And played like my favourite old song.

God only knows how happy you've made me
As if you'd be able to say
(we're one every time that I play)
And now that I have you this is forever
Sometimes love happens that way

I'll take My Time

Written By: Lisa Cameron

I can see the horizon and it's clear as the day
But there's clouds all the way to that line
And even though the waves are crashing and the
water's cold and grey
I'll just take my time.

From the time that I first noticed that
this boat was going down
I've been throwing water over the side
Hanging on and trying everything I knew
Using all my strength just to get through

Even though the sun is sinking and this day is at its end There's no need to be hurrying along Cause all the work that I've been doing will see me through this night And I'll be close to home by dawn

I'll take my time and see
And this time I'll jump ship before she sinks on me
