"A Bite Of the Big Apple"

"... Lisa is a bundle of high energy with a big set of lungs on stage, and her band Girl Friday is tight. Her original material, from ballads to upbeat party songs, have heart and soul and speak to anyone who walks to the beat of a different drummer. "Beautiful Freak" which celebrates the individualism of us all, makes you realize how dull life would be if we were all the same. Lisa and Girl Friday are building a fan base everywhere they go, and sooner or later you will get the chance to see her - don't miss the opportunity to experience their party. " - GIRL TALK MAGAZINE

"La Dolce Musto"

"Sporting a diagonal dress and mall-ready rocker-chick hair, big-lunged Lisa ripped into attitudey classics... The audience lapped it up, especially Lisa's side trips to the '70s (an impassioned cover of "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves") and the present (her original song about the beauty of being a freak "Beautiful Freak"). She's got the beat!"

"Entertain Me: Review & Commentary"

"Lisa Jackson and Girl Friday are next on the Miller Stage. They’re a smart, sexy, punk band from NYC. The crowd doesn’t quite know what to make of Jackson at first, as she belts out riffs in a checkered skirt and knee-high stockings... Jackson gives the bemused crowd one of the most memorable sound bites of the weekend: 'I used to pray to be normal, but as much as I prayed, Jesus doesn’t really care what you do in your spare time.'" - InStep, Wisconsin

"Prettiest, hardest-rocking gal in rock in New York City right now"

"... Rocker Lisa Jackson's set last Saturday night at CBGB's made believers of us once again... The show was taped for a concert album so if you listen close you can hear us hollering like banshees as Jackson and her righteous band GIRL FRIDAY wailed away on some of the standard gems like, "Fabulously Done," "Radio Song," and a scorching cover of Kim Wilde's "Kids in America." (And we gotta give it up to Jackson's hot bodied drummer Freddie "Boom Boom" Sanchez. When he took off his shirt to reveal his foxy, sweaty drumming chest towards the end of the show we were like screaming tweens at a 98 Degrees concert circa 2001.)"
John Polly, NEXT Magazine - Next Magazine

"A-LIST"

"Whether or not there's a niche market for transgender new-wave rock revivalists, I suspect the only reason iron-voiced Lisa Jackson isn't as huge as the Rapture right now is that A) she actually rocks, or B) she's a he (or he's a she.) Lisa plays Friday at Urban Wildlife, (where her live reputation from the last show looms large.)"
Peter S. Scholtes - CITY PAGES, Minneapolis

"Rockin' Role"

"Don’t let the long hair, short skirts and soft, sweet voice fool you—when she straps on her Fender Stratocaster, transgender rocker Lisa Jackson is a tigress, leaping across the stage and roaring into the mike. She’s a fierce rocker in the mold of Pat Benatar and Debbie Harry, and with her band Girl Friday at her side, she’s slain crowds at CBGB, Don Hill’s, Fez and the Slipper Room. On Saturday 18, Jackson will bare her claws at Park Slope’s Southpaw...
As evidenced on their new eponymous, self-released EP, the group’s sound is strongly influenced by ’80s-era arena rockers like Bon Jovi and Van Halen, with strong, driving rhythms and invigorating power chords. The lead track, 'A-OK,' is something of a personal anthem for Jackson. 'It’s about how our country is at war, we have huge moral battles and financial crises that no one’s paying attention to, but people have time to worry about me and what’s going on in my life.'
—and she’s seriously optimistic about the future, with a goal to play Giants Stadium for the biggest gang of freaks ever gathered under the sun. "

Bio

Combining a punk rock energy with an arena-rock theatricality you can't help but raise your lighters to, Lisa Jackson & Girl Friday are quickly becoming one of the most buzzed about bands in New York City - playing to packed clubs all around town, selling more CDs than they can produce, and attracting the most diverse, loyal fan following a band could hope for.

Lisa and the boys have started to take the rest of the country by storm, too. Whether headlining major outdoor shows in Minneapolis and Milwaukee with The Psychedelic Furs, Pat Benatar and The Motels, playing top-rated stages like The Fox Theatre in Colorado with Nina Storey, or just tearing through every down-and-dirty rock 'n' roll dive from Boston to Chicago to Los Angeles, Lisa Jackson and the boys are spreading their speaker-shattering sound all over the country.

In Girl Friday, Lisa has found a backing band rivaled only by Elvis's Attractions or Bowie's Spiders From Mars.

With Steve Lavner maniacally pounding on the keys with virtuoso mad scientist chops, Jeff Gurner laying down the heaviest of pockets on the bass, and Freddie 'Boom Boom' Sanchez delivering both slam and swagger behind the drums, Girl Friday lays the perfect foundation for Lisa's Townshend-inspired guitar and powerhouse vocal delivery.

Their new self-titled EP is completed and being sold at Tower Records and CDBaby.com. A new video for the single 'AOK' is on its way, as well as a feature-length documentary chronicling the band's rise to rock stardom.

In the meantime, the best place to hear the new material is where Lisa Jackson & Girl Friday do what they do best:

On stage.
Loud.
Live, Live Live.
