"CNC Music Productions"

From the very first note, it is clear that Lisa is very talented. Her lyrics paint a picture for the listener on songs like “Merry Go Ride” and “Beautiful Dream”. The band plays very well and the songs are produced to showcase Lisa’s voice perfectly. - Nate Christy

Bio

Lisa Jane Lipkin is a piano-playing songstress with a rock-meets-folk kind of poetic take on life. Her passionate voice draws you into a melodic, storytelling world that is as unique as it is moving.

Once dubbed a cross between Joni Mitchell & Diana Ross, Lipkin was weaned on the Beatles & Beethoven, cut her teeth on Dylan & Cat Stevens, and was schooled in Ella Fitzgerald and Elton John.

A beguiling performer, Lipkin has opened for Dar Williams, Steve Forbert, Vance Gilbert, Shemekia Copeland, John Pizzarelli, Garnet Rogers, Beatlejuice (with Boston’s Brad Delp), Tom Chapin, among others, in addition to being a featured performer at countless clubs, coffeehouses & concerts.

Her new album is "Flying on Instruments" which she co-produced with producer/composer/musician Richard Martinez (Across the Universe) and features guitarist Peter Calo (Carly Simon), drummers Doug Yowell (Duncan Sheik) and Terry Silverlight (George Benson), bassist Mike Visceglia (Suzanne Vega) and a cast of talented others.

“Flying on Instruments” reveals Lipkin’s broad range of musical influences and stylistic versatility. She is equally comfortable declaring emotional war in the upbeat opener "I Do Now" as she is tenderly caressing in the ballad “To Begin Again with You.” Lipkin can at once be optimistic and cheerleading in the bluesy rock-rally "Move On," and then turn introspective and deeply compassionate in the penetrating ballad "Change upon Change."

Keen at singing about love and its various gains and losses, Lipkin also aims to raise social consciousness in the passionate appeal “Does Anybody Hear?” Inspired by Kerry Kennedy’s powerful book, “Speak Truth to Power”, the song was written to open the New Hampshire premiere of “Voices from beyond the Dark”, Ariel Dorfman’s drama prompted by the work of Kennedy’s organization “Speak Truth to Power”.

In addition to appearing on many compilations as well as other artists’ recordings (Aksara, Sandi Kimmel & “Women, Spirit, Song”), Lipkin’s songs, compositions and arrangements have won First Place in a New York State Contest for Environmental Awareness and appear in the new Tami Gold documentary “Passionate Politics-The Life and Work of Charlotte Bunch.”

Her debut CD "Raise the Honey" was hailed as “a body full of truth and emotion” and features “Jayme’s Song” (theme song of “Jayme’s Fund for Social Justice, NH based charity). Lipkin’s second CD, "A Prayer for Peace", is a journey through healing music with original songs, prayers and chants inspired by Jewish mysticism and praised as “haunting and beautiful, carefully and passionately put together”.

A Jersey-girl living in New York, Lipkin admits wanting her music to offer something positive and transformational. “I sing about life - up, down or in between - always going for some truth. I think it really does set you free"
