"Program helps people grow a business"

Lisa Lee started singing in college. (She has a South Salem business which has benefited from MERIT, a program designed to help people grow a business idea into a money-making enterprise.)

"First and foremost, I'm a singer/songwriter and performer," said lee, whose business name is Mighty Phoenix Productions. Her first CD a folk-flavored album called "Phoenix Rising" is available online at CDBaby.com. Injuries suffered in a car crash in 1996 made it difficult for her to hold a more traditional job.

Lee has performed at the Salem Arts Fair, the Seattle Folk Life Fesatival, and this year sang at the Magic at The Mill event. She also creates handmade beaded scarves that she sells at the Saturday Market in Salem. - Statesman Journal, Salem, OR

"Last Summer Picnic concert features Lisa Lee"

Autoharpist Lisa Lee will be performing at the last show of the Summer picnic Concert Series at West Salem Park this Thursday, August 20.

Lisa moved to Salem a year ago last June from Banks, Oregon.

She has performed in the Washington County Fair the past four years, the Hillsboro Arts in the Park program for five years, two years in the Hillsboro Arts Brown Bag concerts, and at the Salem Art Fair this year and in 1983.

"My performances are full of a variety of music," says Lisa, "each filling a space in my heart. I hope they touch a part in each of my listeners as well.

"Folk music is my anchor: it helps me identify my roots and reminds me of the struggle our forefathers and mothers faced.

"Folk music is built on experiences. It rejoices, rebels and requites. It paints a picture of our past. When I sing folk music I feel real lucky."

Lisa also performs country music, some pop tunes and songs dedicated to the peace movement, kids, lovers and love of oneself.

"There is power in musical expression. If I can make one person feel good about where they are, and where they might be going, I've done a lot," says Lisa.

Lisa will also be performing in the Craft Courtyard of the Oregon State Fair this year from 1 to 2 p.m. and again from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 29 and from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 6.

She is also available for weddings, funerals, banquets and personal livingroom concerts. - Statesman Journal South Salem News

"Easy Listening"

"There is power in musical expression."

Those are the words of Lisa Lee, who will be exhibiting her power on the Rotary stage at Summerfest on Saturday, July 27, at 3 p.m.

Lee is a native Oregonian, raised in the country hills of South Salem. She began writing songs when she was only 8 years old, and was given her first autoharp at the age of 12.

"Music is one of my basic elements. I need it like I need the sun, the rain, and the grass beneath my feet."

With these elements, her talents grew over the years, and she has been featured at the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle and the Oregon State Fair, among other venues.

Lee comes to Summerfest with a strong voice, a mixture of power and tenderness which, combined with her 3 octave range is very rare. The clear, pure tones of her voice leave the listener captivated and awed.

"People leave my performances soothed and relaxed," says Lee. "I am pleased to be able to offer a welcome respite from today's lifestyles."

"My intention is to make at least one person feel good about where they are and where they might be going."

Lee's accompaniment, the autoharp, is self-taught. Her technique is uniquely stylized; the harp can ring with danger in "Matty Groves" and trickle with sensitivity in "The Lass from the Low Country."

She has an extensive repertoire of folk, country, and contemporary music, including favorite songs from Joan Baez, Peter, Paul and Mary, Judy Collins and John Denver. Bette Midler's "The Rose" and Anne Murray's "You Needed Me" and many others will caress listener ears like a summer breeze.

Lee still writes her own music, combining the earthiness of folk, the substance of new thought and the empathy of hard earned wisdom.

"My original compositions are like pictures in time. I attempt to put poetry to music with its symbolism and natural tempo intact. I write songs that respond to the ups and downs we all experience.

Lee has two original albums to her credit. "Journeys" is comprised of 60 minutes of self-accompanied autoharp. On her first CD release, "Phoenix Rising", she is joined by piano, flute, guitar and saxophone. - Itemizer Observer, Dallas, OR

Bio

I grew up in the countryside of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. My father was a painter and teacher. He taught me to see the mystery of Mother Nature and my place within it. I spent hours walking in the woods, horse-back riding and gardening. My music reflects the beauty I see, the range of emotion we all feel, and I package it in gentle melodies and descriptive lyrics.

I grew up listening to folk music on records, and adult contemporary music on the radio. I wrote my first song when I was just 6 years old! Although I am primarily a solo performer, I have performed with a country band, a celtic band and as part of a duo. Gifted with a voice that blends power and tenderness, a sweeping 3 octave range and a clear, pure tone, I love taking my listeners to a place only they can go. My listeners come away captivated, soothed and centered. I am one with the music I perform - it all comes from the heart. My original music gently offers a view into the hidden parts of ourselves. I support freedom of expression, permission for the process, self-respect and respect for Creation. My music connects with people because it allows them to connect with themselves. Adding my autoharp to the blend creates an intimate aura which soothes, uplifts and renews your spirit.

Music has power. I choose to sing songs that convey a message. Some purposefully contain more than one. Each listener will hear the message that is right for them. I want at least one person in my audience to feel good about where they have been, where they are now, and to look at the choices they have about where they might be going.

"Lisa's music brings you back to center, nourishes your heart and soul, encourages your spirit, and nurtures love, hope and peace."
