Bio

Lisa Nora is a Dutch singer/songwriter, characterized by a mix of pop, folk and catchy tunes. Her music, inspired by the past, special stories and contemporary heroes, a combination which can be heard, swallows you whole, like an adventurous book that will always be a part of you.

Since her birth, Lisa Nora has sometimes felt like she did not belong in this world. Lisa could not really get used to the social and playful aspects in her childhood. As a result, she became socially awkward and withdrawn. At a young age, she started writing songs. This was the ultimate outlet for her and she had suddenly found a way to express her feelings.

Lisa Nora was raised in a musical family. Her father and mother are professional musicians who always rehearsed in the living room. Lisa and her sister were always surrounded by the British and Celtic music that her parents made and performed. The love for Folk and British music started here, which has become the foundation for Lisa Nora's music.

At the time she was thirteen, she, like many other teenage girls, connected to the music of the popular English boybands and musicians around 2012. This has led to her playing the guitar along with the piano, and she expanded her song-writing and music style: the addition of pop music besides her initial style of folk and British music.

Over the years, Lisa Nora has developed as a singer/songwriter. Later on, she started to perform small shows with her own songs and covers. She participated in talent contests which she won, piece by piece, and got in contact with people and artists such as Giel Beelen, Karin Bloemen and Gavin James. She also played on the radio: a few times on 3FM and twice on NPO Radio 2.

In the fall of 2016, she discovered the beautiful initiative of 'Art Rocks'. Of the 5 museums that took part, Lisa Nora chose the “Tropenmuseum” in Amsterdam. She had to write a song in response to an artwork. Lisa chose a drawing about slavery, signed by J.G. Stedman. With her song 'Once A Slave', she won the final in Paradiso, Amsterdam. After the final, the jury of professionals: who cover all the different disciplines in the music and art world, had unanimously rated Lisa’s song as number one. The jury's statement stated:

“She has been able to turn this big and heavy theme into a small and vulnerable song, in which hope conquers all.” - Jury Art Rocks 2016.

In May 2016, Lisa Nora recorded her first EP 'Like A Stone' at a unique location, where a beautiful house had been converted into a brand-new studio in Hamburg. Lisa Nora was one of the first artists to record here, accompanied by Manfred Faust (platinum mixer engineer) and Torsten Eichten (co-engineer and a successful entrepeneur in the commercial business). The EP consists of four songs; Like A Stone, Locked Your Love, Run Away, and Where Does Time Go. The last song has a lot of personal value for Lisa. She wrote it for her grandmother, who died of cancer. Fortunately, she had the opportunity to play this song a few weeks before her death. “That was one of the most special moments in my life. I can remember it like it was yesterday. This song meant so much to her and to me as well, that I decided to put this number on the EP, as an ode to her.”

Lisa Nora's debut EP will be released on September 14th , 2017. This year she will be on tour with the Popronde, which means that she is going to perform in most of the cities participating in the Popronde. Just before the Popronde, Lisa Nora signed with Ramon Benneker of Indelible Management (artist management agency). Partly thanks to him, the EP has become reality.
