**3rd Place 2008 Telluride Troubador Competition** Lisa Sanders belts out songs filled with world-weary experience and entices her audiences by weaving heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies with a stylistic purity that is rarely found in pop music today.

Biography

Born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and raised in a small Southern California town, Lisa Sanders has learned to push her musical boundaries to places that are almost never explored by Afro-American women. And she does it with such confidence, with an inherent ability to make even unwilling listeners to stop dead in their tracks and ask, "Who is that woman singing? And where does she get her voice?"

Lisa Sanders sings with such conviction as to make the hair stand up on the listener's arms. With a voice so penetrating it brings tears to grown men's eyes. An amazing presence and sultry charm, Lisa Sanders delivers.

Third place winner of the 2008 Telluride Troubador competition, two time award winner for San Diego Acoustic Artist of the Year and the Reader Magazine's Best Acoustic Artist, Lisa has opened for such artists as Lucinda Williams, BB King, Bob Dylan, Al Green, Stevie Nicks, James Taylor, David Wilcox, Louden Wainwright III, Babyface and Sophie B. Hawkins. Sanders also performed at the Lillith Fair with Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow and the Dixie Chicks to name a few.

With five CDs to her name including her latest, Last Night in Roseburg, a deeper exploration into Lisa's self described style of "black cowgirl country/pop," a roots/rock, blues oriented, pop CD that pushes mainstream pop to new heights. Lisa Sanders looks forward to a long career in music with touring and writing at the forefront.

Angels

ANGELS | ASCAP ©2006

YOU SAY I’M BENT ON SUFFERING, DID I LEARN THAT IN SCHOOL
I’M A GLUTTEN FOR PUNISHMENT, DID THEY TEACH THAT TO YOU
I SAY THERE WHERE NO BAD SCHOOLS,I MADE UP MY OWN RULES
THERE WHERE ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME

I DRINK BEER IN THE MORNING TO START MY DAY
MY SISTER COMES AROUND SAYS THAT’S NOT OK
I TELL HER NO WORRIES HERE, YOU GOT NOTHING TO FEAR
THERE ARE ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME

I SAY,THERE ARE HEARTBREAKS TO TEAR ME APART
AND I TRY, I HAVE A GOOD LIFE I DO THE BEST THAT I CAN
CAUSE THERES ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME

MY FRIEND ANDY IS IN THE FIGHT FOR HER LIFE
SHE SAID THAT’S OK CAUSE GOD MADE IT RIGHT
SHE SAID I’VE GOT NOTHING BUT TIME
TELL ME WHATS ON YOUR MIND
THERE ARE ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME

TIME GOES ON AND ON AND SO DO I
PUSH A LITTLE HARDER SO I CAN RETIRE
SOMETIMES I’VE CHANGED JOBS TO STAY AHEAD OF THE LINE
CAUSE THERES ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME

SOMETIMES I GET BOUGHED DOWN.CARTING KIDS AROUND
AND SOMETIMES TO MAKE ENDS MEAT NOTHING GOES RIGHT
BUT THERE ARE ANGELS WATCHING OVER ME
AND THERE ARE ANGELS WATCHING OVER YOU

Life Takes You Flying

Written By: Lisa Sanders | music & lyrics ASCAP ©1999

AIN’T IT FUNNY HOW LIFE
TAKES YOU FLYING
AND THE ONLY THING TO ASK
IS WHATS YOUR STORY
YOU CAN TELL ME
CAN’T YOU SEE I’M HERE, CAN’T YOU SEE IM’ HERE

I’LL TAKE YOUR SUGGESTION
I CAN TAKE A VACATION
SOMEWHERE TO WALK ALONG THE BEACH
IN THE STILL CALM OF THE DAY
IF THAT WOULD CHANGE THINGS
CAN’T YOU SEE I’M HERE, CAN’T YOU SEE I’M HERE

HOW THE TIME SEEMS TO SLIP AWAY
IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ORDINARY DAY
WHAT COULD BE SAVED BUT THE WORDS GO UNSPOKEN
IT MAKES THE WORRIES NEVER GO AWAY
BUT I’M HERE, I’M HERE

I’LL MAKE SOME ARRANGEMENTS
TO VISIT IN THE SUMMER
SO WE CAN SIT DOWN AND TALK
AND LAUGH ABOUT HOW IT USE TO BE
THEN I COULD HOLD YOU
CAN’T YOU SEE I’M HERE, CAN’T YOU SEE I’M HERE

HOW THE TIMES SEEMS TO SLIP AWAY
IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ORDINARY DAY
WHAT COULD BE SAVED BUT THE WORDS GO UNSPOKEN
IT MAKES THE WORRIES NEVER GO AWAY
BUT I’M HERE, I’M HERE, I’M HERE, I’M HERE
AIN’T IT FUNNY HOW LIFE, TAKES YOU FLYING

Tell Me Daddy

Written By: Lisa Sanders

ASCAP | ©2008

Tell me about your ways daddy
Are you dangerous?
Tell me about that hat you’re wearing,
Do they change when you’re with us?
Where you go I’m not able to follow
When you go to that place
In your eyes there’s a dark shade of blue

Tell me why you’re drinking daddy
Does it make you feel alive?
Why do you cry daddy,
When you think know one else is around
You are here then you’re are gone tomorrow
When you come home there’s a twelve o’clock shadow
For you nothing better than being alone

Chorus
You’ve got the world on your shoulders
So we’ll have a drink or two
Theirs nothing wrong with surviving but who takes care of you

Show me how to smile, daddy
Am I tough enough?
What is love, daddy I have bad nights of my own
What’s this thing that keeps us hollow?
Where late for life so why bother
This sorrow will swallow us whole

Repeat chorus

Astronaut

YOU ARE AN ASTRONAUT
CAME IN ON A MOONBEAM
THAT BROUGHT YOU RIGHT TO ME
I AM A ARCHITECT, IN NEED OF A SAILOR
TO BRING ME ACROSS THIS SEA

SO WHEN I STEP OUTSIDE TO SEE THE SHINING LIGHTS
AND I TAKE MY TIME TO BREATH
AND OPEN UP MY EYES TO WHATEVER I CAN SEE

THIS IS MY FUTURE
TO FINALLY WRITE THIS LINE
OUT HERE IN THIS MOMENT OF TIME
TO KNOW MY FORTUNE IS NOT AN ACCIDENT
BUT THE BRILLIANCE OF YOUR MIND

SO WHEN I STEP OUTSIDE TO SEE THE SHINNING LIGHTS
AND I TAKE MY TIME TO BREATH
AND OPEN UP MY EYES TO WHATEVER I CAN SEE

AND WHEN I TOUCH YOU, I COME ALIVE
NO ONE ELSE COULD THERE BE
ONLY YOU AND ME TO SAIL ACROSS THIS SEA

SO WHEN I STEP OUTSIDE TO SEE THE SHINNING LIGHTS
AND TAKE MY TIME TO BREATH
AND OPEN UP MY EYES TO WHATEVER I CAN SEE
