Lisasmith

BandRockSinger/Songwriter

Imagine Natalie Merchant on her bitchiest day, ranting about some heinous injustice; couple that with Alanis Morissette's most tender moment of wearing her heart on her sleeve and finish it off with Sheryl Crow's story telling and production sensibility, that's Lisasmith.

Biography

Lisasmith is a singer/songwriter from New York.
Her song, For All I Am is the theme song to Moody's Point, from Nickelodeon's The Amanda Show. In addition to Moody's Point, Lisasmith's music can be heard on another Nickelodeon series, Zoey 101, (starring Jamie Lynn Spears). Zoey 101 features the tracks Mudskipper and You Don't Know Me. Future episodes of the show Drake & Josh will also include music from Lisasmith.

Her music has also been selected to appear on several music compilation discs, including Listen, Learn and Groove Volume 3 CD, released by the Femalemusician.com. Her song My Radio History was chosen as the opening musical track.

Lisasmith's music has been used in several independent movies, including the horror flick Naked Fear and the gangster film West New York, starring Frank Vincent (Goodfellas, Raging Bull), Gian DiDonna (Alive, The Funeral), Victor Colicchio (Goodfellas, Summer of Sam) and Vinny Pastore (The Sopranos, Carlito's Way).

Her latest musical contribution is featured on the soundtrack of the new independent film Mattie Fresno and the Holoflux Universe (Angela Pierce, Orson Bean, Carol Alt) released in the summer of 2005. Lisasmith collaborated with the film's director, Phil Gallo on the movie's theme song, Hello, It's Me.

Selections from her last CD, The Plight of a Rejected Girl are included in the score of the play, True Story, which has premiered in indie theaters in L.A. in the summer of 2004.

Lisasmith has just released her new CD, Spirit of '76. She is working with Nickelodeon on track selections from this latest release for use in their current and future TV projects. Look for her new music on CD Baby and iTunes.

Lyrics

Spread

Written By: Lisasmith

I can’t get by with nothing, though you seem to want me to.
They say you don’t die from nothing, but your nothing is killing me.
I am all on fire... I get nothing out of you.
Never once did you ever even compromise.
Never once did you ever not try to lie.

And I spread even when I knew it wasn’t right
and I spread because I love you and want you in my life.
Every day I pray I hope I bleed a little bit
because any little piece of you inside of me is more than I can bear.

Always, always such a fool for you.
Always clinging on to the thought of you.
Always... Always such a fool for you, and I do it again, and again, and again.

And I spread even when I knew it wasn’t right
and I spread because I love you and want you in my life.
Every day I pray I hope I bleed a little bit
because any little piece of you inside of me is more than I can bear.

Thanks

You leave me standing here like your broken hearted lover.
Don’t cross me darling, I’ll get you one way or the other.
I am right behind you; almost right beside you.
And anything you can do, I do better... honestly.

So thanks for nothing.
What I really want to do is thank you, thank you for all that you do.
Can’t you give a girl something?
Don’t you pull on her heart strings, something from you.
Oh please let me thank you.

You break and smash the pieces and toss it off the ledges.
I search for fragments and cut my fingers on the edges.
You wore my poor, poor heart out.
You broke my faith and no doubt;
Anything you can do, I just wouldn’t, now honestly.

So thanks for nothing.
What I really want to do is thank you, thank you for all that you do.
Can’t you give a girl something?
Don’t you pull on her heart strings, something from you.
Oh please let me thank you.

And all this madness, don’t you know we’re puppets on a string?
All this sadness, don’t you know we’re puppets on a string?
Don’t you ever wonder if it is real?

So thanks for nothing.
What I really want to do is thank you, thank you for all that you do.
Can’t you give a girl something?
Don’t you pull on her heart strings, something from you.
Oh please let me thank you.

Stupid Boy

Written By: Lisasmith

Your lack of conscience slays me as you lay down.
Your heart and mouth betray me, but I stuck around.
You’re a stupid boy who gets around.

Don’t bother calling anymore.
You make it too hard to go on living.
Don’t bother calling anymore,
you make it too hard to keep on giving.

She took your affection away on that day;
shattered any hope that you might stay.
A pretty girl gets emblazoned on your mind.
A pretty girl makes it easy to decide.
I’m a stupid girl who can’t get her way.

Don’t bother calling anymore.
You make it too hard to go on living.
Don’t bother calling anymore,
you make it too hard to keep on giving.

Don’t you turn and walk away, mister smug boy. I don’t deserve this. I know your ploy. Too scared to leave me for a skirt so easy. But she’s way too pleasing, so you’ll just cheat me.

I’m a stupid girl who can’t get her way.

Don’t bother calling anymore.
You make it too hard to go on living.
Don’t bother calling anymore,
you make it too hard to keep on giving.
