Bio
Influenced by the raw energy of Chicago blues legends, The Red Devils, and icons Elmore James, Eddie Taylor, and Jimmy Reed. Lisa draws heavily on the heritage of her musical antecedents, including female blues performers Koko Taylor, Etta James, Wanda Jackson, Big Maybelle, and Bonnie Raitt . She also admits to an admiration for Lucinda Williams, whose narratives of destitution, pain, and loss have drawn critical acclaim. Lisa is also a fan of chanteuse Shannon McNally, and her a spin on love/lust tropes. Lisa will tell you over an ice cold drink that she dreams of singing the blues on the radio and performing the world over, from the local BBQ hotspot to the stages of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest. When Lisa steps in front of a mic something magical happens - something kinetic, highly sexual, and raw... What comes out makes you want to ball. And I don't mean cry. Lisa's current plans involve touring with her new CD, and reaching out to music fans everywhere with her own distinct interpretation of the blues - through her own songs and words, as well as renditions of delta, country, and Chicago blues classics.
Lisa and The Lisa Wenger Band have proven to be a crowd pleasing outfit. Featuring Phil Schmid on guitar, Jeremy Johnson on Drums, Bill Black on Bass and local keyboard legend Bruce McCabe filling out the sound.
