"LISTEN UP: COLORADO BAND HEADS OUT"

Listen
Extending musical capabilities through technology, Listen is an electronic symphony interlaced with conscious hip-hop and powerful polyrhythms. They provide a musically diverse appeal by extracting elements from hip-hop, dub, drum 'n' bass, funk and live electronica in their high-energy performances.

Listen streams effortlessly through ambient atmospheric themes and jungle rhythms for a unique approach to the live electronica movement. By creating original live loops and samples within each performance, they are breaking new grounds in originality and diversity.

The complexity that makes up the Listen sound is supported through the constant rotation of musicianship and lyricism. The band frequently switches instrumentation allowing for a multitude of unique sounds and musical landscapes in each composition. Each of the members also writes and performs their own lyrics, creating a variety of moods and topics the audience can relate to.

Merging several musical genres into their experimental sound, this act appeals to a wide variety of listeners. By streaming live multimedia, their performances consist of both visual and audio attention for a musical phenomenon beyond the typical hip-hop presentation.

Based out of Ft. Collins CO, the quartet has performed over 150 shows on the musical syndicate including performances with De La Soul, G. Love and the Special Sauce, Talib Kweli, Maceo Parker and Israel Vibrations. They have garnished a large national following and are taking the musical market by storm. Their new studio album is expected to be released this spring, with fresh tracks and a positive musical message.

Bio

Listen is more than a band; it is an evolving musical project. Comprised of four unique individuals, Listen is a combination of diverse styles, visions and talents. By extracting elements from hiphop, dub, drum and bass, indie-rock, funk, electronica, and much more, they distort musical boundaries while developing a truly original style.

They have performed with many well-known musical acts, including De La Soul, G. Love and Special Sauce, Talib Kweli, Maceo Parker, Blackalicious, and Israel Vibrations. Currently touring throughout the western United States, Listen is spreading their aural vibrations and securing their future in the collections and memories of all who appreciate musical innovation.

Michal comes from the far away land of Poland. He arrived in Colorado around the age of 6 and has been making plans for world domination ever since. He plays keyboards, guitar, and an MPC2000xl. He goes by the alias AES and his superior rap style is made apparent on his solo album, May to December. No matter what language he's speaking, Michal succeeds in finding the joy in his sorrow and exposing the sorrow in all joy.

Cory is the nearest living relative to the beat machine. In addition to supplying Listen's drumbeats, Cory also contributes his unique vocal stylings. No one knows where he came from or how he got here, but his precise rhythms and subtle lyrical observations concerning the human race and its curious desires never fails to intrigue anyone willing to listen. Some insight might be available on his solo hiphop album "Spaced Oddities" but copies are extremely rare. Although Y-Roc can drop beats and spit rhymes like no other, he has yet to unlock the secrets of Derek's macking technique.

Ken departed from Maine and arrived in Boulder in the spring of 1994. Since then, he has developed his turntable skills while pursuing a doctorate in philosophy. Each of these endeavors has also played an influential role in the evolution of his lyrical style.

Derek wandered into the mix from a small town in rural Wyoming, and has been producing innovative beats and solid basslines ever since. His ever-expanding skills with the MPC2000xl add a subtle and distinctive undercurrent to Listen's already melodic sound. He is the production mastermind behind Listen's first two albums, and will continue to play a central role in Listen's production. In addition to his musical contributions, Derek's versatility on the mic has been a key factor in Listen's success.
