"Artist Spotlight: Bizzy Crook"

Artist name? Bizzy Crook

Location? Miami, FL

What was the hip hop scene like for you growing up?
The hip hop scene was huge growing up. Very influential on the way I grew up. We wanted to be just like the rappers we’d seen on TV. I got in a lot of trouble for that, haha. Every dime I made, I’d run to the store and buy a CD. Growing up near Miami my friends were all about Trick Daddy. I was too, but my love for hip hop was bigger than just down south music. I listened to everything. A lot of up north music. I was the kid putting everybody in school on to Dipset, and the LOX. Eminem was my first favorite rapper. Then Jay-z, DMX, Ja Rule, and Lloyd Banks at some point. I remember my dream for the majority of growing up, was signing to Rocafella, and getting a Rocafella chain. I wanted that so bad!

What makes you different from other rappers out now?
As cliche as it sounds, I am more than just a rapper. I started off as a rapper when I was 6 years old, and now I’ve grown into an artist. A lot of my music has a positive message, and if it doesn’t have an exact positive message, it doesn’t have a negative either. I speak on a lot of things that kids like me, and people all around the world face. Things that go on in the world but nobody ever speaks on. Things like fitting in, bullying, suicide, world hunger, and a lot of things that get left out. When I blow up I really want to have my own awareness campaign.
I actually want to use my music, and the position my music can put me in for a greater good. Other than that I’m still a kid. So I talk about things kids my age do. Nothing that y’all didn’t do growing up, haha.

Tell us about this project?
The environment working on “Good Luck” was a little different from when I was working on “P.S Im Sorry”. While I was working on “P.S Im Sorry” I traveled a lot. Flying to L.A and NY every month. I met with some of the biggest labels, I learn a lot about this industry and how the game goes. I met a lot of people, I even got to kick it with a lot of rappers I looked up to all my life. It was hectic. It’s like when things first start to pop off, and your so young, you get so excited, your just running around every where. Inviting a bunch of people to all your studio sessions, it was all crazy. This time around things calmed down. It was just me and two of my good friends, in the studio. Plus I was still coping with the passing of my best friend. I really grew as an artist. This time around I wasn’t afraid what people would think. I did what I knew was real. I found myself, musically speaking. This time around I wasn’t making music to try and impress people. I made music that was real to me, and hoped people would be impressed. I don’t even curse on “Good Luck”. It’s all positive. I’ve already started working on a new project, I have a new management team that believes in me, so we about to kill it.

Who would you like to work with in the future?
Ton of people. There’s the cliche answer, you know the Eminems, the Jay’s, the Kanye’s, Rozay, the list goes on. But then there’s the answer you wouldn’t expect me to say…I would absolutely love to work with Lady Gaga. I feel she is incredible, and one of the most influential people in the world. I would also like to work with Demi Lovato. Demi Lovato is such a strong, young, talented artist, and I feel like I can really relate to her. I would also love, love ,love to work with Adele. Adele is just phenomenal. If me and Adele got in the studio it would be out of this world.

Are you happy with the buzz you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Def grateful. I have gained a lot of fans in the last few months. I made it to magazines, newspapers, radio, and just about every big hip hop blog you can think of. I get emails from fans all over the world. I had a fan in the military reach out from Afghanistan, telling me her whole platoon spent an afternoon listening to my music. That was so surreal to me, but I learned you can never be content in this game. That’s how you keep the drive. I want to change the world.

Is there anyone you would like to give “Thanks” too?
A Huuuuuge thanks to Everyoneloveshiphop.com, who have been supporting my music since forever. Thanks to all the blog sites who show me continuous love, and all those who have ever supported me period.

How can fans reach you?

"BIZZY CROOK, ‘THIS IS ME’ FEAT. DEMI LOVATO – SONG REVIEW"

Miami newcomer Bizzy Crook is a wide-eyed dreamer on ‘This is Me,’ a new song from the rapper that features Demi Lovato.

Bizzy opens by announcing that pursuing a hip-hop career has been his goal since he was a kid: “While all of my close friends all went to college, see me, I had a dream and I went to find it / It’s not impossible at all, they just afraid to try it / I was just trying to build a plane and became a pilot.”

The rapper states repeatedly that he wants to be sitting at the Grammys next year, which is giving that award show too much credit, considering that they’ve never been the best judge of artistic achievement. But his ambition and energy are infectious, and when paired with the relaxed beat with acoustic guitar and subtle strings, it gives the song an emotional quality that many rap songs lack.

Lovato’s hook picks up on that theme when she sings, “This is real, this is me / I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be now / Gonna let the light shine on me / Now I’ve found who I am / There’s no way to hold it in / No more hiding who I wanna be, this is me.”

The biggest problem with the song is a technical issue — something seems wrong with the mix. Though Lovato sounds great, her vocals are really quiet, to the point that it’s difficult to hear them when Bizzy raps over her.

The song would be worth another star if it simply had a proper mix, but as it stands, it comes off sounding more like an amateur recording. We’ll give Bizzy the benefit of the doubt and assume this is just a rough mix and a proper version is still to come. - popcrush.com

"Demi Lovato, 'Camp Rock' Go Hip-Hop? Bizzy Crook Explains!"

Rapper Bizzy Crook knew that when he wanted to use a sample for his track "This Is Me," he had to find a way to weave in his favorite song from his favorite Disney movie. Which means "Camp Rock" star Demi Lovato makes a cameo on the track. The MC sampled the uplifting "This Is Me" because he really connected to its message of self-acceptance.

"When I was a kid I left the city where I grew up at, and I moved and it was hard for me to adjust. I didn’t have too many friends; I hung around by myself…then I watched the movie and that song really related to me," he explained of the tune.

While thematically it may work for his track, it does seem a bit odd to have the teen starlet on a rap song. "A lot of people are really surprised to see someone like Demi Lovato on that specific song. A lot of people when they listened to it they're like, 'Wow, it's still a really good song,' even if it's not something they would normally listen to," he explained of the sample from the hit Disney flick.

"As funny as it sounds, I actually watch a lot of the Disney movies. 'Camp Rock' was probably one of my favorite movies," he dished. "I actually really, really, really like that song, so I just called my in-house producer one day…it sounded like something completely different."

Born Lazaro Camejo in 1991, Bizzy always knew he was destined for musical success. Raised in Miami, he got early inspiration for his musical career when, at the age of six, his cousin brought him a CD that would change his life forever—the 2000 Grammy Nominees, featuring Eminem’s “My Name is…”

Bizzy was fascinated with the dexterous wordplay and furiously fast-paced delivery; he put the song on repeat, turned to his cousin and said, “I want to be a rapper when I grow up.” A less-than-enthusiastic response from his family left Bizzy disappointed but undeterred. He made it his personal mission to give his new-found passion his all. “It bummed me out, but didn’t really change my mind,” says Bizzy, and his love for the music soon drove him to start writing his own cleverly conceived, albeit juvenile, lyrics. “My first song was off a Ray-J beat, I found a microphone lying around the house, took my father’s boom box, wrote an entire song, recorded it and played it for my family,” recalls Bizzy, “My mom was surprised by the song, but she was even more amazed that I could work a boom box at such a young age.”

Bizzy began to take his musical career to a new level. “My mother purchased studio equipment to keep me out of trouble; I didn’t know what half of it was. I just thought it looked cool,” he remembers, “When I began to get more focused, my songs began to sound better.” Bizzy drew inspiration from artists such as Jay-Z, Jadakiss, DMX, Ja-Rule and Ludacris. “I marinated on what Jay-Z had to say. How he could talk about everything from growing up in the projects, to popping champagne with his friends and everything in between. The story, the struggle and the success is what I wanted to talk about.”

Bizzy Crook is definitely setting the bar high as he continues to hone his craft. When asked about future goals. Bizzy simply states matter-of-factly, “I plan on branding myself as one of the greatest entertainers that has ever blessed a microphone.” No small feat for most artists, but then again, he isn’t most artists…Bizzy Crook is a winner. &
