"Little Bird-Miss Tangerine"

There’s a new band making their way into the Annapolis, Maryland music scene, Little Bird. Their debut album, Flipping the Bird was released in September. The CD only has eight tracks but the price is right for only $5.

With the release of their latest video to the song, Miss Tangerine, a few weeks ago, these kids seem to be on the right track. Yes, I said kids. Little bird consists of two 18 year olds. My first thought when listening to the song and seeing the video was, “Oh god, I feel so old.” After having a good cry about all the years I’ve wasted, I gave the video another go. The song is uplifting, witty and fun. It has a Southern Blues sound with some great guitar picking and vocals to back it up. It's starts off with some nice percussion created by fret hand muting by the rhythmic guitarist. There are also some nice moments of lead and rhythmic guitar sounds together and of course, no Blues song is complete without a great harmonica solo. I wish more Blues sounding music was as uplifting as this one but then I guess it wouldn't be the Blues afterall.

Here’s a song that doesn’t ask us to contemplate reality or bare our souls, it’s just a nice tune to dance around to and feel good. It’s made me realize not everything needs depth, some things can truly just be for entertainment purposes. Watch the video and remember the fun times from your high school days... - The Watchtower

"LittleBird – Twist and Shout (Cover)"

There’s something about artists with “Bird” in their name and doing covers that I fall for. First there was Birdy, now a 17-year old guy from Maryland named James Hurtt, who goes by the name of LittleBird. He has covered the classic “Twist and Shout” and made it seem very acoustic, peppered with a bit of soul in his voice, and then…out of nowhere…he pulls out a surprise. I’ll let you listen to find out what it is. Crazy. Where did that come from? Ballsy move, young man, but it works!

Bio

Little Bird was born 2009 as Jay Hurtt alone from Lothian, MD. He self-recorded and released two projects of his own on his independent label BeuRun Records as a singer/songwriter. Three years later Jay was booked at the legendary dive bar in West Annapolis named The Whiskey. That same night the James Rubush Trio was on the bill before Little Bird. As Jay was unloading backstage he dropped his harmonicas on the couch of the green room. The harmonica's caught James' eye and James invited Jay to sit in playing harmonica with the Trio playing G. Love's "Hot Cookin" at the end of the Trio's set.

Two weeks later Jay invited James to write some music together. Three weeks later Little Bird was formed into an acoustic duet.

The full four piece band formed January 2013 including Jay Hurtt, James Rubush, Mike Ware, and Chris Elvidge. They had their debut performance January 2013. The band went on to win Baltimore's Battle of the Bands summer 2013 and had two radio features within the first 8 months together. The band put out their first release July 4th, 2013 entitled "American Spirits".

The band is expected to release their first full length album sometime in 2014.
