"Indie Folkster's Little Sur Release Self-Titled EP"

"...an indie folk band with a charming new record. Little Sur is a trio from NYC but they are all transplants and this music is delicate in a way I don’t think is representative of a band hailing from the city." - Songs:Illinois

"5 Indie Musicians You Should Know"

"Jesse Aicher, Olivia Gerber and Josh Meer play together in a band called Little Sur. All currently attending NYU, the band members of Little Sur feature a collection of Indie folk music. You can download their EP for free at littlesur.bandcamp.com." - Kenton Magazine

"Introducing...Little Sur"

“…I describe their sound as a mixture of folk, pop and even a hint of country with a focus on transcendent melodies….I don’t know what the hell they’re talking about but just sounds so beautiful.”
- Base Magazine

"A Day At A Time"

“…a heavy folk influence with traces of indie-rock and nostalgia…Their musicality is calculated, but in watching their performance, it reads nothing more than effortless.” - Campus Sounds

"Little Sur"

“…the emotional charge and acoustic nature of Bon Iver, the creativity and surreal aspect of Sparklhorse, and the frequent inclusion of unconventional musical moments within similar, similar to Radiohead…They music holds a raw quality.” - Paper Spaceship

Bio

Little Sur is the creative collaboration of Jesse Aicher and Josh Meer, along with whatever friends they can gather. In a few short months the band released their folk inspired debut EP featuring vocalist Olivia Gerber. The EP was recorded, mixed, and produced entirely by Aicher and Meer and written with help from Gerber. It was released digitally April 3rd, 2011 on Bandcamp.

Little Sur’s sound combines the rustic aesthetic of folk music with the timbres and lyrical musings of modern day indie-rock, melding ethereal guitar and banjo with honest and intimate male/female vocals. Their arrangements recall Elliot Smith and Devendra Banhardt with vocal deliveries that stir in listeners recollections of Joanna Newson, Justin Vernon, and Ben Gibbard. On their self-titled E.P large, lush orchestrations are juxtaposed with subdued, minimalist numbers that remain cohesive in their intricate production. The result is both cinematic and emotional, harnessing the authenticity of roots music and the experimentation awarded with contemporary technology. The EP features “A Fragile Thing”, winner of Best Soundtrack at NYU’s Tisch 48 Film Festival, and the single “Barbarosa”. With Little Sur, the ‘folk’ genre is eternally stretched.
