Live Bait

Live Bait

A true acoustic eclectic band. We play lots of original tunes as well as folk, blues, old standards, and rock tunes. All of them performed in our own unique style. A good dose of irreverent humor is often thrown in.

Live Bait was founded in the early eighties as far as anyone can recollect. At first we could not afford real instruments! Pete and Gregg shared a tagboard copy of a long necked Stella. It would be years before Pete would learn to chord and Gregg would learn to pick. Dave meanwhile made steady progress on his dung colored three quarter stand up bass. In the early years audible mistakes were rarely heard. But with fame and fortune they were able to purchase real wooden guitars and a bass.
Following the purchase of their first real instruments their musical career takes off. Although they rocketed forward on a steep learning curve, their ability to "fake it" holds them in good stead.
They've played many venues and festivals in the midwest including "On The Waterfront" in Rockford, IL (5 times, winning two "Best Of Rockford" Awards), Heritage Fest in Downers Grove, IL, Two Way Street Coffee House, Cafe Carpe in Ft. Atkinson, WI, Long Grove Applefest, many, many others can be seen on the Live Bait website.

We have two recordings:
Acoustic Eclectic
Willie and the String Band
Tracks from both have had radio airplay and can be heard at CD Baby.

Set List

We try very hard to tailor our sets to the audience. We have over 100 songs in our playlist and can choose a wide range of energy levels. Our sets range from 30min to an hour. Normally we will do 2 or three sets in an evening. Our cover songs include Chuck Berry, Delbert McClinton, Nat Cole, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Joan Baez, Warren Zevon, Buddy Holly, Child ballads, Ry Cooder, Mississippi John Hurt, Leo Kottke, Ray Bonneville, Richard Thompson, and a bunch of others I can't think of at the moment.
