Bio

Boa is a multimedia performance group based in Montreal, Canada. They combine live Video Light Painting with live music and body movement to shape a unique audio- visual experience.

The core of the group is Nicolas Maranda and Patrick Rochon.

Nicolas is an award-winning singer/songwriter, composer, musician and gold record producer. His compositional style is eclectic, blending acoustic, electric and electronic elements into distinct soundscapes. His compositions have appeared on record, in television series and feature films. His productions have covered many styles of music, from house music to tango and from rock to Arabic. His performances on record include various guitars, basses, keyboards, and percussion instruments, as well as more exotic instruments such as oud and didgeridoo. He has played hundreds of shows in Canada, the USA, Europe, The Middle East, Australia, Haïti, and exotic locations such as the North Pole and the jungles of East Timor.

Patrick is an award-winning photographer with a taste for music who has shot the likes of Beck and Björk. With over 15 years of Light Painting experience in photography, he has developed a unique method of painting with light onstage. He created the multi-media performance group Light Warriors Tokyo andLiquid Vision. With these groups he performed in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, New York, Montreal and all over Japan including The World Festival of Sacred Music created by the Dalai Lama. First prize winner at the Nikon photo contest in Japan, Patrick has done photography for various fashion and rock magazines, CD jackets, DVDs, posters, internet and other promotion materials. Clients also includeToyota, Honda, Yamaha. Born in Montreal, Canada, Patrick has lived mainly in Tokyo, New York and Paris for the last 15 years. His recent return to Montreal has sparked his collaboration with Nicolas.

Together, Nicolas and Patrick have joined their talents to form a new vision of live art. A sonic and visual feast, their shows have been described by spectators as “mesmerizing”, “spellbinding” and “dumbfounding”. Boa’s show is constantly evolving and includes various performers from different disciplines. Depending on the size of the show and the venue, the show can include up to 8 additional musicians (including a string quartet) and a variable number of dancers and poi performers.
