Bio

Liz Davis Maxfield is "a rising star in the Celtic music scene and she is revolutionizing the use of cello in performance." (Natalie Haas).

An eclectic cellist with extensive experience as a performer, recording artist, and teacher, Liz started playing the cello at the age of ten and she recorded her first album before she turned twelve. Since that time, Liz has recorded ten albums and has been featured on dozens more.

Soon after graduating from Berklee College of Music, she was awarded a Fulbright to study towards a MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance at the University of Limerick. Her book, "The Irish Cello Book: Traditional Tunes and Techniques" published by Berklee Press andHal Leonard has garnered positive reviews and has been dubbed "The definitive classic for cellists looking to play Irish music in an authentic and meaningful way." (Mike Block).

Liz has performed across the globe as a solo artist and with various groups including her own projects, New Time Ensemble, Folk Arts Quartet, and Ampersand. Her compositions for cello choir are enjoyed by a wide range of cellists, and she teaches folk and alternative cello styles privately, via Skype, at festivals, and in workshops.

She lives in Provo, Utah with her husband, Andrew Maxfield, and her sons, Eliot and Simon. She plays a 2007 J.P. Lucas cello.
