"Irish Noise!"

Three years since the release of their debut album, Lluther are back! After a long quiet period, the band are ready to reemerge with a hard hittin’, heavy rock second album, Rise of the Reptile King. Today the band release the second single from the album, King of Nothing. Their first single, In The Dollhouse came out last month and much to Tickets There’s dismay We only heard about it today from our old rivals (who we’re beating in the hits war by the way. Push it guys – Ed) Hotpress. After fierce negotiations, some sackings and knee delivered apologies, Tickets There has decided to review both songs and save face,

In The Dollhouse is a terrific, building piece of rock music. Imagine Monster Magnet, Marilyn Manson and Scott Weiland writing a song and you’ll get close. There are so many different styles as the song moves from sustained melodies and echoing vocals to hard edged guitars and explosive changes. Each listen brings new love for the song and as first singles go, this is a pretty good sign of things to come.

King of Nothing is a totally different monster altogether. It’s like hard rock meets funk as synth/guitar riffs build the bridges while vocals intertwine throughout leaving the drums do their best to let you know what direction the foot stomping, C.A.F. (Catchy as F**k) chorus is going in. The guitars are nastier, the vocals are clearer, the production, playing, writing everything is just brilliant. While In The Dollhouse may take one or two listens to really warm up to, King of Nothing will drill straight into your playlist and stay there until you nuke the damn thing out.

Although there’s only a sample of the next two singles, Rise of the Reptile King and Femme Fatale up, they both sound like they’d rock the bollocks of a mammoth so expect a follow up review as soon as we have the album and/or when the songs come out.

Jez, after the amazing stuff we heard from Million$Reload, Tickets There didn’t think anyone else could come close but by God there’s some savage stuff going on in the Lluther camp. This will be an album well worth picking up and loving.

Catch them when they play Dublin’s, The Button Factory on March 27th

The History

Lluther was formed in 2004 by Gerry “G” Owens, who was looking for a new direction in music following the break-up of the highly acclaimed Skindive, in which Gerry was the main songwriter and guitarist. Skindive had been signed to music legend Chris Blackwell (U2, Tricky, Bob Marley etc)’s Palm Pictures record label, and their albums received excellent critical reviews with very credible sales in the US and around Europe. Skindive’s music featured in several television programs and was also used in the prestigious MTV Awards ceremony in 2003.

Shortly after Lluther were formed they recorded and self-released their first EP “Venus Complex” and this led to them being quickly snapped up and signed to the German heavy rock label Tiefdruck Music. The album “Agents Of Empire” was released shortly afterwards in Europe on the Tiefdruck label. Working closely with the label they began to play all around Europe and got a tremendous crowd reaction. In early 2008, Lluther parted amicably with Tiefdruck. At this time, Gerry’s songwriting and composing abilities were recognised by international music giants EMI Publishing where he signed to a major worldwide deal. After being signed by EMI, Gerry went back into the studio to work on a new and more mainstream rock sound. He spent 2009 working and writing, putting the time in to get right the songs he knew were bubbling within his creativity.

The end result....”Rise Of The Reptile King” a brand new and truly unique studio album from Lluther. All the tracks were written and produced by Gerry Owens, mixed by both Gerry and renowned studio mixer Chris O’Brien, and mastered by Richard Dowling.

Besides being chock full of cracking rock tunes, lyrics and melodies, the new album sees the band pushing the boundaries of rock music, entering the world of circus performance, freak shows, the supernatural and the bizarre.

Daring to be different, Lluther are not only planning the release of their album but are also currently working on the production and release of both the full length book and the graphic novel also entitled “Rise Of The Reptile King”, a fictional story based on the real life tragic events recalled in the journal recently discovered in Waldo (See Below*).

The album and books tell an interesting and unique story – a flamboyant, mysterious, dark, romantic and compelling tale of an anti-hero and his spectacular rise, fall and rise again....and yes, Lluther are right in the middle of it all, as each of the members all feature as characters in the books.

With constant demands and requests for new music from the fans, the band recently decided to make 3 of the tracks available through their own website. These tracks were “In The Dollhouse”, “King Of Nothing” and “Rise Of The Reptile King”. A limited number of promo singles were sent out to rock stations in Europe (excl UK) a few months ago and got a lot of airplay (especially in Italy, Poland, Finland, Germany). One track "In The Dollhouse" went into the Virgin Rock Radio Airplay Top 20 in Italy in June for 4 weeks, alongside U2, Them Cooked Vultures, Depeche Mode etc

* The Story

In 1892 there was a mysterious fire at the Bill C. Coup Circus in Magnolia, Arkansas. This fire claimed the lives of five performers, one of which was ringmaster A.G. Brodie. Despite the controversy and uproar that constantly followed this circus before its untimely demise, the tragic event was briskly pushed aside – the investigation halted, and the report left to gather dust in the vaults of US history. Many at the time believed that due to the nature of these performances that the cause of the fire could be pointed to supernatural beings seeking revenge or payback, some pointed to Governor Philip....others whispered that it was the work of the devil. All that we can be sure of is that the secrets of A.G. Brodie and his performers would be forever consigned to the grave during that fateful night, and; that thereafter the world of the travelling circus and that of freak-shows would be forever altered.....until now!

But fate intervened, and the records of these auspicious events – thought lost – were recently discovered in a handwritten journal found in an attic in Waldo, just outside Magnolia. This journal written by one Dan Thuller has now been passed over to the ‘American Museum of Circus Freaks and Memorabilia’ in Little Rock for safekeeping.
