Bio

[Alani Lolohea Jr.] Professionally known as L Matik born of Tongan descent, started his musical career in East Palo Alto, California (CA) in the early 1980s finding his passion and talent in Rap culture. Seeded in what is known as “The Town”, L Matik made his presence and music heard in and around the Bay Area early in his career.

Inspired by the late Tupac Shakur, L Matik’s songs are a direct reflection of his trials and tribulations growing up in East Palo Alto, Ca. Today, L Matik is considered to be one of the first Polynesian icons to pioneer the rap game. Over the years, his love of music has matured and he has grown into a successful entertainer. He has opened for acts such as The Black Eyed Peas (Universal Music Group), Fiji (South Pac Entertainment) and Mistah Fab (Atlantic Records).

In 2006 with the release of his debut album “Still On The Block”, L Matik emerged and rapidly grew his fan base not only in the states, but also abroad. His raw and edgy style has made him popular in such states as Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Hawaii. L Matik also has a growing fan base on the East Coast from New York to Florida. L’s international fan base spans throughout Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand, Australia, Guam and his native Tonga. His newest independent project “My Sav’d Out Militia Gang” is due out early 2009.

While signed to the independent record label Familia Inc., L Matik collaborated with such artists as The Outlawz, Global, and Bay Area rap legend Too Short. His 2006 album was executively produced by Anthony “Ant” Banks and featured the smash singles “I’ma Stay Ghetto”, “D’Boi ” and “Weekend Hoez” featuring Too Short. When asked about his rap career, L Matik replies, “I’ve grown to a mature and normal standard of living, expressing my past through poetic lyrics on records. I pray for a miracle chance to succeed as a rap artist.” Through music and performance, L Matik shares his life story while living in the streets of East Palo Alto, CA.
