The best kept secret in music

"Brew City Bruises"

"Thursday night and just seven bands took the stage-but what bands they were. Madison indie rockers Lockwood gave every last ounce they had to the appreciative Milwaukee crowd and incredibly unique bands carried on the example." - Emergenza Webmagazine

"Local Music Spotlight: Lockwood"

“Lockwood’s five members are all
very talented, very experienced
musicians and their sound reflects
that. With an average singer they
would still be a good band. But
they don’t have an average singer;
they have Sam Jackson, one of the
strongest, most refreshing voices in
Madison’s musical community, and
his presence really elevates
Lockwood to the status of one of
the city’s elite bands.”

"Performing live, Lockwood doesn't lose a step . . . their experience and confidence were readily evident and made an immediate impact. The true test of the vocalist is performing live, and Jackson's performance was as impressive as the studio tracks." - The Madison Observer

"Quintet Combines Styles for a Distinctive Sound"

“The band’s sound is clean, with
Jackson’s voice resonating with
each note he sings. The instruments
flow well together, and the piano
adds a nice touch to the serenity of
some of their songs.”
- The Badger Herald

"Song Review"

“I really like the beat of the song
[’The Chance’] and the overall feel
attitude, and mood it creates.
There are some excellent changes
in this song where it goes from
very soothing and comfortable to
a period of energy and a lot of
musical movement. It works very
well. Vocals are done very well.” - Garageband.com

Feeling a bit camera shy

Lockwood formed in the Spring of 2002 in Madison, WI after lead singer Sam Jackson posted flyers around the University campus looking for musicians to join him in the creation of a new band and a new sound. Matt Spangenberg (guitar/vocals), Eric Holbus (keys/synth), Matt Harris (bass) and Seth Lochen (drums) took that challenge. Over the next three years, the band refined their song writing and strengthened their stage performance by playing almost every gig imaginable: dive bars, coffee shops, sorority houses, Halloween parties, graduation parties, summer festivals, charity events, battles of the bands, and weddings. In addition to gaining live show experience, the band built a solid fan base in Madison and began to play on stages in Milwaukee, Racine, and Northwest Chicago. During this period, Lockwood also recorded three EPs, performed live on WSUM radio in Madison, and appeared on an NBC News music showcase. In early 2006, the band relocated to Chicago, where they met Tim O'Connor, their new bassist. In no time, the band was performing again for crowded rooms of enthusiastic fans. When they are not rehearsing and recording in their Bucktown studio, the members of Lockwood are promoting their music, networking with venues and other bands, and supporting the local music scene.
