Biography

Lola Spriggs is an Ottawa-based singer now making major moves in the U.S.. Her previous single, "Nobody But You " was a breakthrough U.S. radio hit in 2010. The #1 "most added" song on adult contemporary radio for three weeks running, it reached #11 (ACQB), deservedly placing Spriggs alongside the likes of Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus in the upper reaches of the charts. It went on to officially crack the MediaBase AC Top40. Impressive media coverage followed.

Early indicators strongly suggest even greater success with her brand new single. "Your One and Only " has one of those irresistible melodies you don't want to shake, and Lola does it full justice. As with "Nobody But You ", the new track is a collaboration between Spriggs and acclaimed Toronto producer/songwriter Marcus Kane. Lola hits a game-winning home run with her convincingly soft and tender vocal performance here. Her voice is a seductive combination of power and passion, and is an instrument capable of conveying the widest range of emotions.

Spriggs' talents as a singer and performer have long been well-known in Canada, both from earlier bands and her two acclaimed solo albums, 2004 Lifescrapes and 2008’s Barefoot. Her earlier work explored an amalgam of light rock stylings, but Lola has made the transition to mature and polished modern adult pop with graceful ease. "Art is always evolving, and tastes and moods change, as you travel through life. I don't wear the clothes I used to. My musical style now reflects where I am in my life." It fits her like an elegant custom-tailored suit. Ladies and gentlemen, here's the One and Only Lola Spriggs!

Lyrics

Someone's Cage

Written By: Lola Spriggs & David Matthews

Bossed around - been put down - pushed along my life
Given up trying - and lying - depression now my strife
First the truth would never do - lying took its course
Tried too hard – each time I failed - now to face remorse
I’d give it up – forget it all and turn another page
Like before if things were changed I’d fall into someone’s cage

I like to think I am free – but I’m not
Nowhere to go – I’m all alone
Pacing around … Someone’s Cage

Here I sit in solitude - remembering my plight
To keep ahold on sanity – I can’t give up the fight
I’d give it up – forget it all - turn another page
Like before if things were changed I’d fall into someone’s cage

I like to think I am free – but I’m not
Nowhere to go – I’m all alone
Pacing around … Someone’s Cage

Desperation cleared my mind – freedom’s what I smell
Make my way alone through life – no more of your hell
I won’t give up – I’ve got it now - turned another page
Not like before – things have changed - I’ve climbed out from your cage

And now I know I’m free – Yeah I’m free
Somewhere to go – I’m not alone
Pacing around … Someone’s Cage

I Aint Crushed

Written By: Lola Spriggs & David Matthews

Life’s got a way of working things out
Trust in my instincts – no questions or doubt
Mama and my papa gave lessons in life
Believe in tomorrow – make sure I do right

I won’t feel guilty – that’s just not my way
You want a lifetime – I’ll give you today
You buy me jewelry – I’ll buy a card
You want forever – I say that’s hard

I ain’t crushed
I may seem down
Sometimes I wonder - Sometimes I fail
Sometimes I’m missing a day
But I ain’t crushed

You want a baby – white picket fence
I’m not that stable – that’s my defense
It’s never ending – you’re wearing me thin
I said I’m leaving don’t ask me again

Nobody But You

Written By: Bogene Williams, Stan Stapor, Marcus Kane

NOBODY BUT YOU

Morning comes and you’ll be waiting
waiting for me to rise
Evening comes and you’ll be waiting
under the big blue skies
And just knowing that you’re there takes away all my fears
I can see it in your eyes you feel the same way

Nobody in the world makes me feel so right
nobody but you - You are my light on the darkest night
nobody but you
Nobody in the world makes me feel so right
nobody but you - You are my light on the darkest night

You give more than you’re taking
I ask you why
You’ll be leaving on the next train leaving me behind
But just knowing that you care takes away all my fears
If you could read my mind you’ll know what I’m thinking
What I’m thinking - I’m thinking

There’re no words to express the way that I feel deep down inside
Nobody in the world makes me feel so right

When you’re gone I’m sure gonna miss you - the thought that keeps me alive
Is knowing some day I’ll be with you - the one that makes me feel so alive

And when you are gone what keeps me strong
Is knowing some day I’ll be with you
Nobody in the world makes me feel so right

I Wanna Love You

Written By: Rane Parish, Marcus Kane, Ronny Drayton

Tell me baby – what to do
What to do cause I am stuck on you
And every time I see you I just tremble and shake
I’m a little bit shy - I don’t know what to say

I’m like a brand new driver in a brand new town
Can you give me some direction – my map is upside down
Well I’ve been driving for days – can’t seem to find your heart
Every street’s a dead end – can’t seem to find your heart

- Chorus -
I wanna love you
Like the rain comes down I am falling for your
I wanna be with you baby til the sun comes up
I always dream about you – that’s not good enough
I wanna love you
Like the sun is hot – I wanna warm your body too
You hold me tight and you kiss me – and then I wake up
I always dream about you – that’s not good enough
For a girl like me

Should I change my shoes - Should I change my hair
If you had a party – would you want me there
Cause I’ve been waiting so long to get your invitation
And my girlfriends say that I’m a fool for waiting

Come on now - tell me baby - what to do
Can you give me some direction – how do I get to you
Cause I’ve been dancing for days – can’t seem to find your heart
And every step I take – can’t seem to find your heart

- Chorus -

A girl like me won’t bring you down, make you frown, no wedding gown
I’m not looking for man to make me happy cause I’m happy now
You ain’t gotta worry bout me – no - you ain’t gotta worry
