Lolly Allen

Lolly Allen

Jazz with Latin influences.

Composer and vibraphonist Laura "Lolly" Allen leads a jazz quartet quoted as having a "spiritual spaciousness" by Downbeat jazz writer Fred Bouchard. Lyrics and original melodies give a nod to artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cal Tjader, Diana Krall, Milt Jackson and Danio Perez. Her music incorporates elements of funk, blues, gospel and Latin with soulful progressions and groove-pocket oriented rhythms. Band instrumentations vary around a core of vibes, bass, drums, voice, keyboard, guitar & percussion.

As well as a vibraphonist, composer and vocalist, Lolly is also drummer and pianist.

The Story Behind the Name:
"Lolly" is an unconventional nickname for "Laura". From birth her parents called her "Lolly", while legally naming her "Laura Beth Allen" after her grandmother, Laura Bradley. This was occasionally confusing when it came to filling out legal forms, but proved excellent fodder for party conversation.

Daydream Brazil

Written By: Laura "Lolly" Allen

Rio... My sweet vacation
imagination take me there
Rio... I see you dancing
moonlight romancing in my arms

It may be the sun will never shine
Upon the one that's meant for me
But if that day falls within this life
Could it be you...?
Could you be the one?
