Review for Pawtucket Blues EP
'On Mathematic Formula Paul Loughran has a superbly expressive vocal. A provocative release'.
Jackie Hayden, Hotpress - Hotpress
If you have the opportunity to witness Longtails, perform live, whether it be a solo acoustic performance or one with several session musicians - djemba, fiddle, mandolin and bass players among others, you will find that this is not your average singer songwriter produced from the Dublin conveyor belt right now. Youll see he has a lot more to offer. Just a listen to this fresh mix of contemporary folk, traditional and percussive acoustica to know that this is not a music for categorizing. His live performance is a ballsy event, and there is certainly no room for quiet reflection here. Appreciated is more of the beer guzzling atmosphere that the performer injects. It certainly gets the crowd pumping, whether it is an early festival opener, or your weekly Wednesday evening in a city bar. Indymedia recently praised his performance at a Hill of Tara fundraising event, "Longtails injected energy into the proceedings and kicked the event off with an upbeat set, boasting a strong percussion hook". Some of the artists best work includes Starry Dublin Nite which presents excellent vocal production and some quirky lyrical content, which is a prime feature in Longtails music. In recent work, he has moved away from breezy acoustic pop to a modern traditional sound which generates vibrancy and passion through his vocals, and evidently is a trip back to his roots. Our latest offering from the Dubliner, and the track that seems to be getting the biggest response is Pawtucket Blues which is an upcoming title track EP release. This is a rip-roaring, almost rap-like stomper, which even your most professional tenor would struggle not coming up for air in between lines. Longtails is playing at a string of venues across Dublin to accompany the release of Pawtucket Blues EP - Joseph O Connor, Media World
