Lyrics

Good Books

Written By: Norman Ball/Lonnie Glass

from the pictures they keep flashing
you can see the censors work
there's no blood around the edges
and no one is getting hurt

but the boy outside the drugstore
the one who left his legs behind
in a war no map owns up to
in a place no one can find

bring the good books to the table
leave your weapons by the chair
we've all been graced with words of kindness
that we are dying to compare

Seems the gods they called a meeting
cause the earth was getting too loud
but before the sky could open
someone set fire to the clouds

oh, that great mountain is a mystery
with so many paths to climb
but all the stories end in misery
all the verses have no ryhme

bring the good books to the table
leave your weapons by the chair
we've all been graced with words of kindness
that we are dying to compare

all the coffins come to Dover
but the cameramen have been fired
because the sight of all the dying
makes the generals look like liars

only tales of fame and glory
ever reach the light of day
and as for all the kids that took a bullet
well, all good soldiers fade away

bring the good books to the table
leave your weapons by the chair
we've all been graced with words of kindness
that we are dying to compare
there's so much hatred in the air
who is still watching us from way up there
is the throne just an empty chair
