Bio

The grit of K.C. Hailey, the Soul of John Legend, and the gospel of Anthony Hamilton could all be used to describe the vocal depth of Lonnie Ray Banks. A true soul rebel who does not feel the need to conform to today's musical standards in order to succeedin the industry. Lonnie let's his voice speak for him, and it's been said that Lonnie's voice will be recognized as one of the greatest voices of the 21st century. He could easily be considered the Sam Cooke of his times.

Born in “Lil' Washington” Washington, N.C. on January 29, 1986, Lonnie Ray the II was the youngest of 6 children. At the age of 9 Lonnie began singing and learning to play the piano and his hunger for an audience was very evident. As he honed his skills in various church choirs it was not unusual to find Lonnie singing at weddings, talent shows, and anywhere he could perform as he transformed himself from a young musical prodigy into the star he is today.

Prior to music becoming his first love, Lonnie was well known for his athleticism and ability to engage the crowd on the basketball court. During the day, Lonnie energized the crowd on the basketball court, and at night he rocked them with his jazzy melodies. When he was not playing ball, signing or playing the piano, he spent time mentoring at-risk youths in various after school programs in Washington, NC.

At age 17 he felt the need to decide between a career on the basketball court and one on the stage. His older brother and mentor Alexander wanted him to pursue a career path in basketball. However, Banks felt otherwise and, against his brother's wishes, decided to focus on music. He moved to New York City where he performed standards at several local clubs. There he met with A&R reps from several reputable labels that recognized his talent but wanted him to compromise for a more commercial identity, and that was something that Lonnie was unwilling to do. So, disappointed with the bright lights of the big city, he moved back to Washington, NC where he found inspiration in his roots and began working feverishly on his forth coming debut album: “Life & Lyrics”. To date, Banks has performed with various renowned artists including the legendary, Pieces of a Dream. Lonnie has performed at several venues along the east coast, and maintains a strong following in and around, the Raleigh and D.C. area.

Lonnie Ray Banks II admires and continues to be inspired by artists such as; Ray Robinson Charles, Frank Sinatra, Kim Burrell, James Cleveland, Patti La Belle, Mary J. Blige, D'Angelo, Erika Badu, Balil, Tweet, Angie Stone and B. B. King. And above all else he draws constant inspiration from his mother, and black queen, Angela Ines Gray. He hopes to one day leave his mark and inspire others to pursue their talents, what ever they may be.
