"FOUR SEASONS"

LOOKIN break the ice and immediately their brand of West Coast, punk fuelled rock feels comfortable. The throbbing harmonies and spiced guitar are set against a firm foundation of firmly wedged basslines and ricochet drums. Lookin are putting things pretty much in the rear view mirror. Their new material is firmer, more solid and carefully paced. As a three piece they focus on whatever reserves of power they can muster, but are also playful and inventive mid-song. Their penultimate track “The Edge” is masterful. This is maybe their hit or their “sit up and take notice” song. Piecing together gutsy rock, skittering middle eights and infectious, catchy straight rock, this track gives a glimpse of a very special future indeed.

"Dividing Tastes"

South Manchester’s LOOKIN have began to cast off the shackles of “Dookie” and have embraced a much harder mix of crashing guitars and stop / start guitar breaks. There’s more of a ‘straight rock’ outlook as the descending bass lines and climatic guitar soundtrack the opener, “Playing Life”. The rich vocals of “Christian D’Acuna” fling themselves from melodic, to cut throat razor sounds, with ease. “Once Again” starts out as pretty straight California three chord punk, but its slightly softened on the verses and then blisters as it veers into a chorus full of harmonies and crunching guitars. Hidden gem though is “The Avenue”. A dark rolling chord phrase and a low octave, ear grabbing vocal hookline which soon throws itself into a widescreen instrumental break before crashing into a melodic interlude. Intersected by a number of compelling middle eights, the overall effect is one of angsty, edgy rock, that shows an impending and growing mass of potential. - Manchester Music.co.uk
