Bio
Loon Lake are a five piece from Melbourne that play what a music journo might call 'high-energy garage indie-pop with catchy melodies', but the boys themselves call 'smiley loose and fun'.
Three brothers - Simon, Sam, Nick - along with buddy Tim grew up in country Victoria, they were later joined by Dan after Sam met him on an overseas adventure, and Loon Lake was born. Taking on board their teenage influences, Loon Lake ended up with three guitarists, but family ties and lifelong friendship - aka being able to tell your brother when something sounds like shit - makes for music that's fast, honest and minus pretension.
Taking their name from an obscure book found in a cafe in Costa Rica, Loon Lake only formed in 2010, but wasted no time getting their demos online. Before long they captured the attention of the hype-hungry music blogs (e.g Who the hell & Rose Quartz) and were a Triple J Unearthed Featured Artist, with first demo ‘Into the Office’ getting plenty of airplay. They took out the station's Big Sound comp and soon after debut single 'In the Summer' was also on high rotation.
Loon Lake spent the Summer in the studio polishing those demos into a fully fledged debut EP, including the singles 'In the Summer' and 'Into the Office' which already have the likes of Richard Kingsmill “a self-confessed convert” and Zan Rowe excited about the "fun, raw quality to each of their recordings, crazy amounts of hooks and guitar riffage".
Loon Lake, in the words of one music blogger, "bros hanging out and playing as loudly and exuberantly as possible at each other". That pretty much sums it up.
