Bio
Loop , a quartet from Asheville, has been developing its unique voice of soul-rock with over 150 shows during the course of two years up and down the east coast. Now, this diverse and energetic band embraces meaningful improvisation, compelling live shows and solid song writing as part of their current design.
Heavily steeped in the tradition of R&B, funk, soul, and rock, with the forward momentum provided through improvisation and exploration, Loop’s live musical voyage always leads to surprising new territory and a sense of discovery. From funky organ grooves to driving guitar rock; mandolin-powered world beats to soulful vocal attacks, Loop will leave no stone unturned.
The summer of 2006 marks the debut album release, Left in the sun for this young group of four. A catalogue of eleven songs creating a balance of melodic instrumental and lyric driven pieces that are a form of social commentary in the same vein as Nikki Giovanni and bell hooks. They tackle subjects of religious hypocrisy, economic class warfare, body vs. soul and the inherent contradictions of surviving in modern America. The underlying motif of the music simultaneously addresses the grieving for a world so quick to violence and greed and the hopeful prospect of a universal return to love.
