"An outstanding voice that ranges from the intimacy of Tori Amos to the emotional power and intensity of Patsy Cline." - Robin Frederick, Songwriting Song Coach/Artist

Biography

"An outstanding voice that ranges from the intimacy of Tori Amos to the emotional power and intensity of Patsy Cline," is how one critic describes this singer/songwriter. Lorie’s blend of Cal-Ark roots rock probably comes from hearing her mother humming country tunes in one ear and her father crooning standards in the other. Her comforting melodies and introspective lyrics got her listed in the Top Ten of Durango Expo’s 2007 Songwriting Contest and can be heard on her new album Dream Drivin’, fresh off the CD presses for sale online at CDBaby, Amazon and iTunes

Lyrics

Dream Drivin'

Written By: Lorie Doswell

V1:
Another late night behind the wheel
Making my way down that busy 405
But this time my mind's on cruise control
High from being with you tonight

PC:
I don't mind the pretend racers
Or the slowpokes in my lane
'Cause...

CH:
I'm dream drivin'
Yeah, I'm dream drivin'

V2:
The seatbelt hugging tight on my shoulder
Is keeping me wrapped in your arms warm embrace
And with each glance in the rearview mirror
I see the smile your love has painted on my face

PC:
I don't care how long it takes
To navigate the lights and brakes

CH:
I'm dream drivin'
Yeah, I'm dream drivin'

Bridge 1:
So quiet yet so alive
I have hit love's cruisin' stride

(Instrumental)

Bridge 2:
And, only those in the same state of mind
Recognize the signs that I'm...

CH:
Dream drivin'
Yeah, I'm dream drivin'
Oh, dream drivin'
I'm dream drivin'
(Repeat, Fade)

Just One Night

Written By: Lorie Doswell

V1:
It's been so long since we made love
I've forgotten what it feels like to be
Caressed and kissed by you

All we share are words of anger
And tears of unrelenting sadness
I'm so tired of feeling blue
I want...

CH 1:
Just one night when we pretend
Nothing's wrong and go back to when
Our love was untried and true
For just one night

V2:
Remember when we said "I do"
What happened to that me and you
So many harsh words ago

When did we start wearing armor
To shield ourselves from each other
I'm so tired of feeling alone
I want...

CH 1:
Just one night when we pretend
Nothing's wrong and go back to when
Our love was untried and true
For just one night

Bridge:
I'm not askin' for absolution or restitution
But, if a night of passion brings on a revelation
And shows us what we had
Would that be so bad
So for...

CH 2:
Just one night can we pretend
Nothing's wrong and go back to when
Our love was untried and true

Can you let go of the bitterness
That built this wall between us
And divided our souls from one into two
For just one night

Tag:
Can we lay our hearts side by side
In the candlelight
For just one night
For just one night
Just one night
For just one night

Compass

Written By: Lorie Doswell

She was a ten-year-old rocket ready to soar
When her heart pointed straight to a sparkle in the sky
And wrote her name on it

But when she tried fly up to that light
She was yanked back down to the ground by that same old lie
“Take only one that’s fallen”

She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And feel a desire burn deep inside
But she let other voices
Cloud up the skies and make her choices
And throw off her compass

As a young woman, she’d grown tall enough
To see beyond their small-minded hills
To the wide open unknown

When along came a man who shined so bright
She was blinded by his strong and steady fire
And began to walk in his shadow

She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And feel a desire burn deep inside
But she let other voices
Cloud up the skies and make her choices
And throw off her compass

As the years flew by her
The rope of fate got tighter and tighter and tighter
Until one day she found a way to cut herself free

She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And could feel that desire rekindle deep inside
Yeah, she can touch her own star way up high in the sky
And feel her spirit spread its wings to fly

Now she won’t let any other voices
Cloud up the skies, make her choices
She’s gonna follow
She’s gonna follow
Yeah, She’s gonna follow
Her own compass

Beautiful That Way

Written By: Lorie Doswell

She was beautiful,
as soon as you met her
You knew there was something
special about her
She was beautiful that way

With her angel’s gaze,
all she had to do was say hello
And you knew you could just
open up your soul
She was beautiful that way

She could get right through the worst of you
To the good inside before you even knew what hit you
And make you want to tell your deepest darkest fears
Because she was beautiful that way

She never played the judge
or defender of your sins
But she’d stand by you
to face the consequences
She was beautiful that way

With her easy laughter
and down-to-earth grace
She lifted your spirit
and gave you the strength
To be beautiful in your own way

She had a strong yet humble armor
You knew she must be so fragile on the inside
And you wanted to protect her but she wouldn’t let you
No matter how hard you tried
Because she was beautiful that way

Yeah, she could get right through the worst of you
To the good inside before you even knew what hit you
And make you want to tell your deepest darkest fears
Because she was beautiful...
That way, (Mm-mm)
She was beautiful as soon as you met her
