Biography

Lori Morrison is a small town girl from Northern Ontario who is making a name for herself on the country music scene as a talented songwriter. For two consecutive years, Lori secured a spot on the KX96 Radio’s Christmas Compilation CD. First in 2002 with the song "Santa’s Little Helper" which she co-wrote with respected songwriter Wendell Ferguson and then again in 2003 with her own piece titled, "Hey it’s Christmastime."

"Keep the Candle Burning," Lori’s debut single in 2002 got solid play on Country Radio and earned Lori a spot on Canadian Musician Magazine’s Great Canadian Talent Search Compilation CD. In the fall of 2003, she released the new single, "Never Never" off her debut album and received even more airplay followed by "Unstoppable", a catchy summer tune. Now her Spring 2005 release of "Waitin’ Tables", a strong story of determination and perseverance, is sure to reach the heart of the ‘working woman’ everywhere.

On her CD, Just My Luck, Lori wrote three original songs and co-wrote two more with Wendell Ferguson. The album, which was released on May 26, 2004, was showcased at a party that same day at Clinton’s Tavern in Toronto. Special guests included country recording artist, Colin Amey and Toronto Blues sensation, Mark "Bird" Stafford. Proceeds from the event went to The North York General Hospital Pediatrics Unit. Lori also, was recently honoured with the Future Star Award at the 2004 Ontario Country Music Awards.

Born and raised on a small farm in Bruce Mines, Ontario, Lori discovered "New Country" and her favourite artist, Reba McEntire when she was fourteen. The strong lyrical storytelling of Reba inspired Lori to start writing her own songs. Having several years of experience in 911 Emergency Police Dispatching also allows Lori to call on those emotions and scenarios for a strong delivery.

Lori uses her strong singing voice styled in classic country with a pop influence to express her experiences. "You know when you get goose bumps when you hear a song? To me, that’s how you know it was a good song. That should be the goal of every musician and every songwriter; whether it makes you angry, makes you sad, or makes you laugh, it doesn’t matter, as long as it moves you emotionally in some way," she says.

Her debut CD entitled "Just My Luck" is now available for purchase
online at www.lorimorrison.ca.

Lori is a talented songwriter, a strong vocalist and a Canadian artist to keep an

Lyrics

Just My Luck

Written By: Lori Morrison

When I walked into the night club, I saw him standin’ there
With those dreamy blue eyes and salt n pepper hair
His cowboy boots and denims, you know they fit just right
I’m sure that I was starin’, but he was quite a sight.
**********
He looked directly at me and flashed that deadly smile
My knees started to tremble like I’d run a country mile
And when he strolled on over and began to chat me up
I thought I hit the jackpot, but he was just my luck!
**********
Well it was just my luck
My timin’ wasn’t right
I was hopin’ for forever
He was hopin’ for tonight
That ring around his finger
Says there’s someone else he loves
The hand love dealt me folded
And that’s just my luck!
**********
The next night at a party thrown by some old friends
I met the guest of honour, but that’s where the honour ends
I thought he might be someone to restore my faith and trust
But it was his bachelor party – ain’t that just my luck!
**********
Well it was just my luck
My timing wasn’t right
I was hopin for forever
He was hopin for tonight
That ring around his finger
Says there’s someone else he loves
The hand love dealt me folded
And that’s just my luck!
**********
I must’ve crossed a black cat, or did I break a mirror?
Cause fortune hasn’t smiled on me for years!
**********
Well it was just my luck
My timing wasn’t right
I was hopin for forever
He was hopin for tonight
That ring around his finger
Says there’s someone else he loves
The hand love dealt me folded
And that’s just my luck.
The hand love dealt me folded
And that’s just my luck.

Waitin' Tables

Written By: Wendell Ferguson/Suzy Conn

I close my eyes and I’m out on the interstate
I can almost feel the wind in my hair
Red Cadillac, white leather seats and custom plates
Nothin’s too good for a millionaire.
My eyes are opened by the crash of a coffee cup
Joe’s in the kitchen yellin’ “Hey Girl, your order’s up”
**********
Waitin’ tables and savin’ tips
Getting’ by bit by bit
My big break’s comin’ and I’ll have money to burn
‘Til then I’m waitin’ tables
Waitin’ for the tables to turn.
**********
College degree through the mail it can sure be tough
But I’ll keep at it ‘til my ship comes in
And when it does, boy oh boy, I’ll be cleanin’ up
You’ll never see me takin’ orders again
But for now it’s ten hour shifts, five days a week
Pourin’ coffees, slinging scrambled eggs and BLTs.
**********
Waitin’ tables and savin’ tips
Getting’ by bit by bit
My big break’s comin’ and I’ll have money to burn
‘Til then I’m waitin’ tables
Waitin’ for the tales to turn.
**********
Layin’ down dinners
Picking up nickels and dimes
Takin’ out trash
And puttin’ in time.
**********
Waitin’ tables and savin’ tips
Getting by bit by bit
My big break’s comin’ and I’ll have money to burn
‘Til then I’m waitin’ tables
Waitin’ for the tables to turn
Yeah, I’m waitin tables
Waitin’ for the tables to turn.
Ooooh yeah!

Unstoppable

Written By: Cyril Rawson/Beverly Mahood/Richard Wold

When the moon’s pullin' at the tide
There’s a shore that will draw the line
When the rain falls where it stops
There’s a risin' river catchin' every drop
Thought everything came to an end
I found out that’s not true
I know there’s been some turns and some little bends
But baby what I feel for you is

*********
Unstoppable
Untoppable
Like whipped cream on a cherry pie
Incredible
Unforgettable
Each sweet kiss
Baby you and I are falling fast
Head over heels
Can’t help the way it feels
This love of mine is
Unstoppable
Mmhmm yeah!
**********
Sometimes sweet dreams don’t seem long enough
And don’t you hate it when you wake up
Some things will come, some things may go
When there’s just one thing when you know you know
I’ve heard that when you give your heart away
You settle for a fall
But let them say whatever they want to say
Cause love can break through any wall

(Repeat chorus)

Can’t deny the chemistry
Or undermine what’s meant to be
Beat goes on and on inside of me
Yeah!

(Repeat chorus)

After The Rain

Written By: Lori Morrison/Wendell Ferguson

AFTER THE RAIN
Lori Morrison/Wendell Ferguson

Can you feel it
The stillness in the air?
Can you hear it
The silence everywhere?
That eerie calm before the storm
Makes me feel lost and far from home
And you!

Is that your sigh
Or just the rising wind?
Are you and I
About to clash again?
As black clouds gather overhead
With every angry word I've said
To you
To you

(Chorus)
When thunder rumbles in our hearts
When storm clouds turn our blue skies dark
When bitter winds threaten to betray
Remember it all washes away
After the rain (After the rain)
After the rain (After the rain)
It all washes away
After the rain!

Do we run for cover
Or face it hand in hand?
Cause how much heartache
Can this love withstand?
The sun will shine again one day
And dry the tears that stained my face
For you
For you

(Repeat Chorus)

From the first cold raindrop
To the puddles left behind
Through the fog, just keep one thing in mind

(Repeat Chorus)

I Wanna Find Me

Written By: Lori Morrison/Larry Wayne Clark

My eyes drift to the Lifestyles page
And I can feel a quiet rage
'Cause what I see tells me there's something wrong
It's implants, botox, nip & tuck
If it's headed south
They can Lift it up.
Lord the things some people spend their money on
They're searching for eternal youth
And hidin' from the awful truck
But when I face the mirror
All I want.

(Chorus)
I wanna find me
And no one else
I wanna read the story
Each line tells
And be glad to know the woman that I see
I wanna be proud
Of who I am
Find a few gray hairs
Not give a damn
And face my own reflection
Fearlessly

I wanna find me!

I see my grandma's weathered face
Her strength and wisdom touched with grace
And I know beauty lives deep down within
I see those girls with haunted eyes
They'll squeeze into that smaller size
But never find a home in their onw skin
It's Vogue and Cosmo, Seventeen
The perfect body, the constant dream
But all I know for sure is in the end.

(Repeat Chorus)
